Founded in 2012 by Stefan Grosjean, Smappee emerged from a desire to empower energy consumers and foster sustainable energy consumption. Grosjean's early fascination with energy-saving inventions, dating back to his childhood drawings of a water-powered engine, laid the groundwork for Smappee's innovative spirit. Headquartered in Harelbeke, Belgium, in an energy-neutral cleantech hub called 'Snowball', Smappee has steadily grown into a global cleantech company. The company specializes in developing energy monitoring platforms and smart EV charging solutions designed to help customers reduce energy consumption and improve energy efficiency. Smappee's future-proof energy management system utilizes state-of-the-art technology to analyze real-time electricity and solar power usage, providing valuable, actionable data down to the appliance level. This allows users to direct excess solar energy to large consumers and battery storage, optimizing self-sufficiency. Recognizing the growing electrification of mobility, Smappee expanded its offerings to include smart charging stations for electric vehicles. In October 2024, Kurt Vandeputte was appointed as the new CEO to lead Smappee's next phase of growth, while founder Stefan Grosjean transitioned to the role of Smappee Group CEO, focusing on innovation strategy and new business ventures.
