About Ohme
Hello, we're Ohme. We're on a mission to speed up the global transition to clean energy by providing affordable and easy-to-use smart charging technology for drivers around the world. Here at Ohme, we're focused on engineering smart home chargers that give drivers the power to get the most from their electric vehicle, while saving them money and helping the planet. Our unique tech integrates with all energy tariffs, so that drivers can charge at the cheapest and greenest times available – we're taking smart charging to the next level. Our vision may sound ambitious, but this is where Ohme's potential lies – in creating charging solutions that ease the transition to electric across the globe. And we're just getting started.
We founded Ohme in 2017 with the idea of adjusting energy demand to meet supply using electric vehicles (EVs). Our CEO, David Watson, envisioned a smart charging system that would encourage customers to charge at off-peak times with reduced rates, with suppliers even sometimes paying them to charge during times of over-supply. He bought a Tesla and came up with the idea of controlling charging with a smart cable, giving customers better and more visible control. The first working prototype for the Ohme Home Charger was produced in 2018, and Octopus was the first supplier with the final production version in 2019, taking advantage of Octopus's agile overnight tariffs for EV drivers. Our unique technology and software can integrate with off-peak EV tariffs, such as those from Octopus and OVO, helping EV drivers reduce their running costs by charging both at the times that are cheapest and when renewable energy generation is at its highest – so low cost and low CO2. We are now the official charging partner for several OEMs including the Volkswagen Group, Mercedes-Benz, Polestar, and Volvo Cars in Ireland, plus we are partners with Motability, the UK's largest fleet operator. We believe that the greatest impact comes when working as one team, and we're building a team of inspiring individuals passionate about breaking new ground to create a greener future.
