We are seeking a skilled paralegal with excellent organizational skills, a self-starter, able to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will bring order to our chaos and support continued rapid corporate growth, coordinating legal requests, and handling workers compensation claims from inception through resolution. This role will be responsible for the investigation and submission of all workers' compensation claims, including phone interviews and follow-up of each claim. The ideal candidate will have experience in a fast-paced, remote corporate environment with demonstrated success in managing multiple priority deadlines and same day requests. This role will have an emphasis on workers’ compensation but will pivot to other priorities as needed.

About your role:

  • Facilitate the Workers' Compensation claim handling process from inception through resolution, including: file maintenance and collection of case documentation; correspondence with adjusters, insurers, and injured parties; and preparation of status reports and memos to facilitate decision making on cases;
  • Organize and maintain case files related to workers’ compensation and other legal matters;
  • Manage, track, and report on a variety of legal and regulatory matters; mail, email or fax responses as appropriate. Ensure all correspondence and documentation is properly retained and saved.
  • Assist in other focus areas including, but not limited to, garnishments and collections.
  • When appropriate, prepare collection files, including reviewing and compiling requested information from various sources, completing pre-liminary reviews, and drafting collection letters.
  • Coordinate, gather and draft responses for subpoenas and requests for information, as needed.
  • Write business correspondence and perform general administrative tasks (i.e., draft and prepare claims, ensure documents are filed on the shared drive, update necessary spreadsheets as requested).
  • Participate in activities associated with a variety of departmental projects ensuring established timelines are met.
  • Support legal research initiatives, including audits of various documents, as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Paralegal certification from an accredited college or university, preferred.
  • Candidate must be able to work independently and have a desire to assume significant responsibility.
  • Minimum of one year’s experience in a corporate paralegal environment preferred.
  • Minimum of one year’s experience managing workers’ compensation claims.
  • Must be a critical thinker, problem solver, and team player.
  • Must be face paced, efficient and have the willingness to learn.
  • Handle various tasks at one time, while maintaining a high attention to detail and accuracy with the capability to meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to jump into an existing caseload and move cases forward.
  • Great people skills as the position requires a great deal of client contact (daily/weekly contact via phone and email).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Developed organizational skills, including ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects and/or competing priorities and tasks and drive them to conclusion.
  • Able to foster a collaborative environment in support of the achievement of business objectives.
  • Computer literacy required, including experience using Microsoft office programs and SharePoint, with knowledge of advanced Word functions and capability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Working familiarity of Healthcare and HIPAA preferred.
