We are a global financial institution with a purpose-driven, principles-led approach to delivering leading performance and creating value for our clients and communities. Our success comes from the 97,000+ full- and part-time employees who serve 17 million clients in Canada, the U.S. and 27 other countries. As one of North America's leading diversified financial services companies, we provide personal and commercial banking, wealth management, insurance, investor services, and capital markets products and services on a global basis. For more than 150 years, we have expanded across Canada, the United States, and to select global markets, establishing strong market positions in five business segments. Our history dates back to 1864 when the Merchants Bank of Halifax was founded to finance the fishing and timber industries. In 1901, we changed our name to the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) to reflect our growth and westward expansion.

Our commitment to innovation is central to our identity. We are actively reimagining the future of financial services to help our clients thrive and communities prosper. This involves significant investments in technology to deepen client relationships and deliver personalized advice and insights. We have embraced a digital transformation, leveraging technologies like AI and APIs to modernize our platforms and enhance the customer experience. Our research institute, Borealis AI, is at the forefront of using machine learning to solve complex challenges in the financial services industry. We were also the first Canadian bank to launch an external API platform, RBC Developers™, fostering collaboration with external innovators. This forward-thinking approach extends to our internal operations, where we utilize advanced platforms like Red Hat OpenShift and Kubernetes to ensure agility, reliability, and scalability in our application deployment and management. We believe in the power of technology to not only meet but anticipate the evolving needs of our clients in an increasingly complex world.
