About the Team

The Engagement Management team ensures the successful post-sales deployment and value realization of ChatGPT Enterprise and other OpenAI products for customers across industries. Engagement Managers collaborate closely with Sales, Technical Success, and Product teams to deliver exceptional AI experiences and measurable business results. Our customers span Large Enterprise, Digital Native, and Startup organizations, as well as Government and Education institutions with unique compliance, deployment, and success needs.

As the leader of the Public Sector team, you’ll help Government and Education institutions adopt impactful AI solutions that make use of our newest, most exciting models and technology. In addition to team leadership, this role includes directly managing a subset of strategic customer accounts, ensuring first-hand insight into customer needs and setting a high bar for team execution and playbooks.

About the Role

We are seeking a Team Lead to ensure the post-sales success of our Public Sector customers. In this role, you will oversee strategic implementations, customer adoption and value realization, and the development of scalable systems and processes tailored to the complex needs of public sector and education customers. Success will be measured by customer activation and adoption, live production deployments, and customer advocacy and satisfaction. You will partner with Sales, Solutions Engineering, Solutions Architecture, Global Affairs, Partnerships, and Product teams.

This role is open in our Washington D.C. office. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.

In this role, you will:

  • Own the strategy and operating model of the Public Sector EM team, ensuring alignment with company objectives and the evolving needs of our customers.

  • Ensure the team is equipped to support and inspire customers in regulated sectors like government and education, navigating unique procurement models, compliance considerations, and deployment timelines.

  • Serve as a player-coach by directly owning select customer engagements, modeling best-in-class delivery and strengthening executive relationships.

  • Lead, build, and mentor a team of high-performing Engagement Managers to deliver exceptional customer outcomes, as demonstrated by production customer deployments, increased adoption, expansion revenue, and customer satisfaction.

  • Act as a technical escalation point during implementation, fostering trust and maintaining direct communication with internal and external executive-level stakeholders.

  • Represent the voice of the customer by synthesizing feedback and identifying recurring themes to influence product development and strategic planning.

You’ll thrive in this role if you:

  • Have 8+ years of experience in a customer-facing role, managing C-level technical and business relationships with complex global organizations.

  • Have 5+ years of experience leading post-sales teams with a demonstrated ability to hire, develop, and manage technical teams.

  • Have experience supporting or partnering with public sector and/or education customers, and understand how to tailor engagement approaches to their specific operational and compliance environments.

  • Enjoy balancing leadership responsibilities with hands-on account ownership, and can seamlessly switch between team management and direct customer engagement.

  • Have led complex implementations of Generative AI/traditional ML solutions and can drive measurable business outcomes.

  • Are an effective presenter and communicator who can translate business and technical topics to all audiences, including senior leaders.

  • Own problems end-to-end and are willing to pick up whatever knowledge you're missing to get the job done.

  • Have a humble attitude, an eagerness to help your colleagues, and a desire to do whatever it takes to make the team succeed.
