The Security Data Engineering team builds scalable data products and frameworks that provide essential insights into security, fraud, and technology risks across both customer accounts and internal systems. We work at the intersection of data engineering and security, enabling Netflix to detect, understand, and mitigate threats in an ever-evolving landscape.
We are seeking a Data Engineer to help us build robust, scalable, and intuitive data pipelines and products that empower our security teams to make informed decisions and respond rapidly to emerging risks. In this role, you will work on diverse data technologies such as Spark, Presto, Flink, Kafka, and others to build scalable data pipelines, write ETL jobs to collect and aggregate data, and create high-quality data models that describe the entities, interactions, and usage patterns across our technology footprint.
The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of building data systems and frameworks that strengthen the security posture at large consumer businesses, and will share our passion for continuously improving how we protect Netflix and our members.
Who You Are
Passionate about building data products that help understand and mitigate security risks in large-scale environments.
Highly proficient in at least one of Java, Python, or Scala (Scala preferred), with at least 10 years of software/data engineering experience.
Advanced SQL skills and effective in complex data environments.
Deep experience (minimum 4 years) engineering data pipelines using big data technologies (Spark, Presto, Flink, etc.) on medium to large-scale datasets.
Experienced in security: Prior experience in the security domain is strongly preferred.
Cross-functional collaborator: Comfortable working with multiple stakeholder groups, including engineering, analytics, and data science.
Leadership: Able to independently lead large, complex systems design and implementation challenges.
What You Will Do
Engineer efficient, adaptable, and scalable data pipelines to process structured and unstructured data.
Develop a deep understanding of the security ecosystem at Netflix, including infrastructure topology, access controls, security policies, and usage patterns.
Partner with security engineering teams to understand product goals and provide data that empowers teams to improve our security posture.
Maintain and rethink existing datasets and pipelines to ensure they remain robust and relevant.
Build robust, reliable, and useful data sets that power advanced analytics, including regression, classification, and clustering.
Mentor and inspire teammates while elevating the impact of the team.
Enable Netflix to effectively manage security risk while maintaining a high standard of member trust and data protection.
Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $170,000 - $720,000.
