Navarro is seeking an experienced Geothermal Engineer to provide technical oversight, certification, and consulting services for a major geothermal power production project. The Independent Engineer (IE) will play a crucial role in ensuring the project’s compliance with technical standards, monitoring progress, and certifying various stages of project completion. This is a remote position.
Key Responsibilities:
During the Loan and PreConstruction perioe the Independent Engineer will assess all aspects of project risk including but not limited to site characteristics, status of local, state, and federal permits, technology and technological advantage, production throughput or yield, technology scale up and development roadmaps, utilities usage, contracts, supply chain, equipment reliability, cybersecurity protection, construction completion testing, interconnection to the utilities, startup, operations, and maintenance.
Review of Loan Application & Due Diligence:
- Prepare detailed work plans and schedules.
- Provide general support to the Federal Project Engineer during the application review process.
- Assess site characterization, including geotechnical, seismic, meteorological, and hydrological data.
- Evaluate technology baselines, intellectual property agreements, and technical designs.
- Benchmark project performance against industry practices and assess technical risks.
Construction Monitoring:
- Attend construction kick-off meetings and establish working arrangements.
- Monitor and report on construction progress, ensuring compliance with the Construction Plan, Operational Completion Date, and Budget.
- Conduct site visits, review quality control reports, and evaluate test and performance procedures.
- Certify monthly construction reports and disbursement requests.
Project Completion and Start-Up:
- Provide independent assessments of project completion, including testing, start-up, and initial operations.
- Certify achievement of project milestones and provide completion certifications to DOE.
- Develop and maintain risk registers and technical monitoring plans.
Technical Support for Loan Closure:
- Track and verify satisfaction of Conditions Precedent for loan closure.
- Review and comment on final project documents and agreements.
- Provide certifications required for financial closing.
Ongoing Consulting Services:
- Provide periodic independent reports on project progress.
- Assist in the preparation of economic appraisals and financial models.
- Advise DOE on risk mitigation measures and technical inputs for performance stress tests.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field. Advanced degrees (Master’s or Doctorate) preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in geothermal power production or a closely related field. Must be a recognized industry leader with a strong track record of professional experience.
- The technology is an enhanced geothermal system (EGS) based on drilling and fracking techniques from the shale oil and gas industries to overcome traditional limitations with geothermal projects. Experience with fracking techniques is desired.
- Extensive knowledge of industry standards, quality management principles, and reliability assessments. Proficient in probabilistic and statistical methods related to risk assessments.
- Skills: Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse teams.
