Navantia UK's story is one of strategic expansion and a deep-rooted connection to maritime history. Established in April 2022, Navantia UK Ltd. is the British subsidiary of the Spanish state-owned shipbuilding giant, Navantia S.A., S.M.E. The parent company, Navantia, boasts a legacy in naval construction that stretches back over 300 years, with its origins tracing to 1717 and the founding of Spain's first modern shipyard, the Real Arsenal de la Carraca. This rich heritage in naval engineering and shipbuilding excellence forms the bedrock upon which Navantia UK is built.

A pivotal moment in Navantia UK's journey occurred in January 2025 with the acquisition of Harland & Wolff and its four historic facilities located in Belfast, Appledore, Methil, and Arnish. This strategic move was not merely an expansion but a significant step towards strengthening Britain's defence, maritime, and energy industrial capabilities. By merging Harland & Wolff's storied past – a name synonymous with iconic shipbuilding – with Navantia's global expertise and cutting-edge technology, Navantia UK positioned itself as a formidable force in the UK market. This acquisition also secured over 1,000 jobs across the four sites. The company is a prime contractor for the UK Ministry of Defence's Fleet Solid Support (FSS) programme, a £1.6 billion contract awarded in January 2023 to build three crucial support vessels for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. This programme underscores Navantia UK's commitment to bolstering the UK's sovereign shipbuilding capability and supporting national defence. Looking forward, Navantia UK is dedicated to investing in its facilities, fostering innovation, and developing a highly skilled workforce to meet the evolving demands of the naval, maritime, and renewable energy sectors, ensuring a resilient and prosperous future for shipbuilding in the UK.
