Why Mozilla?

Mozilla Corporation is the non-profit-backed technology company that has shaped the internet for the better over the last 25 years. We make pioneering brands like Firefox, the privacy-minded web browser, and Pocket, a service for keeping up with the best content online. Now, with more than 225 million people around the world using our products each month, we’re shaping the next 25 years of technology and helping to reclaim an internet built for people, not companies. Our work focuses on diverse areas including AI, social media, security and more. And we’re doing this while never losing our focus on our core mission – to make the internet better for people.

The Mozilla Corporation is wholly owned by the non-profit 501(c) Mozilla Foundation. This means we aren’t beholden to any shareholders — only to our mission. Along with thousands of volunteer contributors and collaborators all over the world, Mozillians design, build and distribute open-source software that enables people to enjoy the internet on their terms.

About this team and role:

Firefox’s Product Management team is looking for an experienced Senior Staff ML Product Manager to shape and lead our vision for delivering high-quality and relevant experiences to our users. In this role, you will drive the design and integration of new recommendation systems into high-visibility surfaces like the Firefox home page and work cross-functionally to identify and build features for existing products as well as define new product strategies.

As a Senior Staff ML Product Manager for the Firefox New Tab team, you will contribute to shaping the vision for delivering more relevant and personalized content and experiences to our users in line with Mozilla values. Our objective is to power our product experiences with modern ML to delight our customers while establishing best practices for data stewardship and privacy on the internet. You will have ownership of the recommender systems we deploy into production and our MLOps. You will work with a team of Applied ML Engineers with the support of Content, User Research, Analytics, Design, Platform and others. You’ll partner with PMs who own product surface experiences to ensure that they are building for ML-driven products. You’ll chart a path for Firefox to personalize our content recommendations and experiences in line with our values and mission, as well as our user growth and business priorities.

We are a fully remote organization. Your development team is mainly based in PST, but you do not have to be. We work in collaborative teams, using agile methodologies and have an interactive culture of experimentation and learning.

What you’ll do:

  • Use your strategic insights, ML knowledge and experience to create, maintain and evangelize the roadmap for your area.
  • Build a comprehensive understanding of user problems and guide our engineering team in prioritizing and developing principled ML solutions.
  • Work with other PMs to define an exciting and industry-leading ML strategy.
  • Collaborate with other Product Managers and XFN team members to deliver your strategy.
  • Partner with product teams across the company to integrate ML models and experiences in other product surfaces.
  • Establish clear success metrics and measuring outcomes to track the effectiveness of your initiatives.
  • Communicate with stakeholders and teams from across the organization to develop and maintain the product roadmap.
  • Use agile practices, including augmenting, refining and prioritizing backlogs and verifying sprint deliverables.
  • Evolve and build an impactful product culture, directly contributing to our product management best practices.

What you’ll bring:

We think you’ll be a particularly good fit if you’re excited by machine learning and are passionate about responsibly building user-centered solutions. You’re a self-starter who is motivated by seeing the fruits of your ML-labor in production. You wouldn’t be adverse to the team publishing an industry paper or two after you’ve shipped.

A lot of companies say they’re “mission-driven.” Our unique corporate structure guarantees that every decision we make upholds our mission: to ensure the internet remains open and accessible. Beholden to neither shareholders nor investors, Mozilla Corporation is wholly owned by the not-for-profit Mozilla Foundation.

Along with our communities of 20,000+ contributors and collaborators, Mozilla Corporation’s staff designs, builds, and distributes software that allows people to enjoy the internet on their own terms. Our flagship product — the Firefox browser — has expanded into a family of products that protects users and alerts them of risks. Mozilla’s Emerging Technologies group incubated and sponsors Rust — Stack Overflow’s “most loved programming language” for the last four years — and is building safe, private versions of virtual reality, internet of things, and voice recognition.

By maintaining a safe, open internet we're helping humanity, while also helping the individual humans employed here to reach their personal and professional goals. With a relatively small team serving hundreds of millions of people, a culture of exploration, and a commitment to mentorship, opportunities abound to learn and grow at Mozilla.
