Overview
Are you looking to make an impact? We are looking for a Staff Testing Engineer to support our government client. In this position, you will be working with a cross functional team to design automated tests and perform manual testing that ensure every piece of mobile functionality released meets quality, accessibility, and policy standards for the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. This role is remote and anticipates 10% travel.
What You'll Do
- Lead, mentor, and develop QA team members through regular 1:1s, goal setting, career development planning, and ongoing coaching
- Ensure consistent adoption of QA best practices across the team, including structured test planning, defect triage, accessibility standards, documentation quality, and technical workflows
- Conduct functional and workflow-driven testing using assistive technologies and automated tools to ensure compliance with VA standards
- Work with government stakeholders, product managers, developers, and designers to understand acceptance criteria, build test plans, and perform functional, qualitative, performance, and accessibility testing for upcoming features / releases
- Develop automated testing solutions that empower technical teams to do as much of their own iterative quality and accessibility testing as possible prior to release
- Empower product managers, designers, and engineers to address failed tests and accessibility considerations, reproduce and prioritize issues, and implement remediations
- Verify fixes are implemented correctly throughout the product cycle in both production and development environments
- Educate and train customers on mobile quality best practices, including mobile accessibility tools and testing methods like keyboard navigation, screen readers, and speech recognition software
- Partner with leadership, stakeholders, and accessibility experts to improve accessibility processes and advocate for accessibility best practices across teams
- Maintain relationships with accessibility staff within VA to ensure alignment and to drive opportunities for further accessibility initiatives across the mobile platform
- Participate in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring candidates for roles with related skill sets and performance evaluation of QA and accessibility roles
- Define KPIs and reporting for quality health, test effectiveness, and team performance, driving continuous improvement across releases
What You'll Bring
- 7+ years of technical experience, including at least 1–2 years in a leadership or mentoring capacity
- A track record of delivering solutions for complex rules-heavy systems in government and regulated industries, bridging technical implementation with accessibility, compliance, and operational reality
- Experience with React Native
- Proven ability to proactively drive adoption of iterative testing protocols across technical teamsDeep knowledge of mobile accessibility standards and guidelines
- Consultative approach to understanding client expectations, working effectively in teams, and being accountable for delivering against testing / quality assurance goals.
- Ability to drive testing solutions amidst ambiguity, and adapt and respond to changing stakeholder and customer landscape
- Solid understanding of iterative software / mobile app development
- Experience with cross-platform or cross-browser testingExperience working with the federal government, especially navigating the PRA
