What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone with extensive experience as a Enterprise Architect, Strategic Architect, Field CTO, Head of Development, Head of Engineering, or Head of Application Modernization, who is passionate about both best practices in modern enterprise architecture and enabling clients through transferring knowledge, coaching, training, and upskilling.
The Principal Application Modernization Architect is a stakeholder and decision maker Liatrio's direction, and accountable for strategic technical direction of a major engagement or several smaller engagements, building and maintaining client relationships as a trusted technical advisor, and overall technical engagement success. Internally, this role will work with Executive and Senior leaders as Liatrio scales. This role is is responsible for the code quality architecture, and technical direction of multiple workstreams.
Titles that can correspond to our work: Senior Technical Director, Senior Technical Principal, Principal Architect, Managing Director, Enterprise Architect, Strategic Architect, Senior Director of Technical Professional Services, Senior Director of Application Development, Director of Developer Experience, or Vice President of Engineering.

What You Do
This is a Senior Director - level role. You thrive building relationships as a trusted technology advisor with clients, guiding and influencing the long-term technical direction of their modernization transformation, and guiding teams through this work.
We each bring varying degrees of knowledge to the table. You will have extensive experience in most of the below areas but not necessarily all of them. This is not a comprehensive list; there may be other equally valuable skills and experience you bring that are not listed here.

Technology Strategy & Delivery Excellence

  • Lead architectural design and drive technology strategy - Partner with Strategic Principal to create SOWs, working closely with the C-suite, Liatrio delivery leadership, and client stakeholders to advise, drive, and evolve the enterprise architecture and POVs in Full Stack Application Development Modernization, and potentially other technical domains
  • Delivery strategy - Working closely with leadership, Liatrio team members and the client, contribute to and evolve the overall strategy for the technical engagement
  • Trusted advisor - Guide clients on technical and engineering methodological best practices, provide broad technical influence, share industry insight, anticipate industry changes, advocate for cloud-native and DevOps cultural and be a transformational consultant (remove political, financial, mental, social impediments)
  • Client relationship - Accountable for an account to build, grow, and maintain Liatrio relationships with the CTO/CIO/Chief Architect, executive, and key customer stakeholders
  • Set and drive technical roadmaps - Architect enterprise solutions, reduce technical debt, balancing constraints to achieve strategic goals, provide oversight for workstreams solving complex engineering challenges, and guide and collaborate with with both Liatrio and client architects and engineers
  • Oversight and accountability Anticipate objectives and conflicting points of view; reduce complexity and clarify the most important technical work for clients and Liatrio

Team Development

  • Team morale and alignment - Accountable for overall morale and well-being of the Liatrio team
  • Direct reports - 4-8 team members of varying experience levels, coaching/mentoring with weekly 1:1s, real time feedback, and formal feedback monthly bi-annually
  • Team accountability - Drive best practices, mentor across teams, proactively assist teams at first signs of struggle and, balance delivery with internal projects
  • Staffing needs demands - Identifies and maps capabilities of the team to client needs, advise leadership and PeopleOps on hiring, onboarding, and rotation to prevent burnout

Liatrio Growth

  • Customer growth expansion - Support Strategic Principle sales team’s work in providing an excellent customer experience, identifying opportunities for expansion, promoting Liatrio, and validating SOWs
  • Liatrio IP development - Leveraging your industry knowledge and Liatrio's insights to create accelerators that will be valuable to future engagements, support our internal efforts, and grow the community

Tools and Technologies

  • As a technology leader, we expect you’ll have significant experience with most of the tools and technologies we frequently use with our clients. While we know it's impossible to be an expert on all the tools available, for this Principal Application Modernization Architect position we expect you to be an SME in one or more areas, communicate with C-Level stakeholders and client technical SMEs, be able to perform advanced tasks in all of the below areas independently, and able to train or upskill client and colleague engineers.
  • Owned modernization of existing legacy applications as well as full stack development of completely new applications
  • Fluent in multiple programming languages, including FP and OOP, and databases
  • Extensive experience creating frontend web applications, backend API services, cloud-hosted applications, and full stack standalone solutions
  • Expertise navigating enterprise environments, distributed systems, and large/multi-cloud environments
  • Comfortable with end-to-end software delivery, able to review code and empathizing with developers and engineers across the SDLC
  • Comfortable with cloud-native architecture, source control management systems and branching strategies, and automation
  • First-hand experience building or deep knowledge from being embedded within Operations teams responsible for: containerization, infrastructure as code, platform engineering, data center architecture, systems architecture, observability, and DevOps practices
  • Advocates for patterns, practices, and best practices like Agile, TDD, BDD, and DDD

Specifics

  • Full benefits including unlimited PTO, funded HSA option, 401k match, monthly LiveWell stipend, and quarterly company bonus
  • Annual base salary: $210,000- $240,000, depending on experience

Requirements

  • Employment eligibility: must be authorized to work in the United States or Canada without the need for sponsorship.
  • Travel: we divide our time between working remotely and visiting our clients' sites. This role will be onsite with the client approximately 50%, which can include commuting, majority US travel, and occasional international travel.
