Leidos, a global technology leader, is seeking a Software Development Manager for our UNICORN program, supporting the United States Air Force in geographically distributed intelligence operations. UNICORN, developed by Leidos, revolutionizes ISR operations by enabling quick and effective planning, collection, analysis, and production of intelligence. This highly intuitive workflow orchestration system optimizes ISR problem sets, providing enterprise and site-level intelligence production management services for global ISR operations.

As a Software Development Manager for the UNICORN program, you will play a pivotal role in leading a team of developers to deliver high-quality software solutions. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the entire software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and design to implementation and deployment. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that our solutions meet customer needs and comply with relevant standards and regulations.

Your technical expertise and leadership skills will be crucial in mentoring team members, managing project timelines, and resolving complex technical challenges. You will also be responsible for implementing best practices in software development, including agile methodologies, DevOps practices, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines. Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of software developers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Provide guidance and support to help team members grow in their careers.

  • Define and refine overarching technical strategy across the program.

  • Develop high level design artifacts working with other leaders and team members to ensure consistency, security, and performance.

  • Oversee the software development lifecycle, including planning, scheduling, and tracking project progress. Ensure timely delivery of high-quality software solutions that meet business and technical requirements.

  • Work closely with testers, product owners, designers, and other cross-functional team members to define project scope, requirements, and objectives. Facilitate effective communication and collaboration across teams to ensure alignment and successful project outcomes.

  • Provide technical direction and decision-making throughout the development process. Ensure the implementation of best practices, including code quality standards, software architecture, and design patterns.

  • Champion agile methodologies and practices, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD). Work with support staff and other agile roles to optimize team performance.

  • Collaborate with QA teams to develop test strategies and ensure that testing is integrated into the development process. Ensure that software meets quality standards and is free of critical defects.

  • Identify potential risks and challenges in the development process and proactively develop mitigation strategies. Communicate risks and progress to stakeholders and management.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends. Encourage the adoption of new tools and technologies to enhance team productivity and software quality.

  • Regularly update stakeholders on project status, deliverables, and any issues or changes. Ensure that all stakeholders have a clear understanding of project goals and progress.

  • Manage team resources effectively, including allocating tasks, managing workloads, and ensuring that team members have the necessary tools and support to succeed.

Basic Qualifications

Security Clearance:

  • U.S. citizenship is required.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance, as required by the position.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field with 12 years of relevant experience in software development and management.Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • Alternatively, a Master's degree in a related field with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.

Technical Expertise:

  • Extensive experience with ASP.NET and .NET 8, with C# as the preferred programming language.

  • Proficiency in designing, developing, and deploying software solutions using the Microsoft technology stack.

  • Understanding of software security best practices and compliance requirements, particularly in highly regulated environments.

  • Experience with agile software development methodologies, including Scrum, Kanban, or similar frameworks utilizing Atlassian software or equivalent.

  • In-depth understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC) and experience with implementing and optimizing CI/CD pipelines.

Leadership and Management:

  • Proven successful experience in leading and managing software development teams, including mentoring and developing team members.

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple projects and ensure timely delivery.

  • Strong intrapersonal skills with a focus on teamwork and building positive relationships.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and solve complex technical problems and make sound decisions under pressure.

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to analyze data and metrics to drive decision-making.

  • Willingness to stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends and the ability to adapt to new challenges and technologies quickly.

Certifications:

  • CompTIA Security+

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Secret or above security clearance

  • Current or prior development experience with the AF DCGS UNICORN program

Pay Range:

Pay Range $126,100.00 - $227,950.00
