This role provides the opportunity to shape the architecture and development of a next-generation analytical compute platform used by thousands of data teams worldwide. You will design, implement, and maintain high-performance, distributed systems while collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize query execution from ingestion to consumption. The position emphasizes technical excellence, scalability, and innovation, offering the chance to tackle complex problems in database systems, query engines, and storage solutions. You will mentor other engineers, influence the technical direction, and contribute to a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement. Accountabilities:
- Design, build, and maintain a high-performance Compute layer for analytical workflows.
- Lead architecture discussions focused on query engines, distributed systems, and storage solutions.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Operations, and Security teams to deliver scalable and reliable compute solutions.
- Develop services, APIs, and features that optimize performance, availability, and user experience.
- Solve ambiguous technical challenges, balancing constraints with product goals and user needs.
- Establish best practices in testing, observability, and system reliability.
- Mentor engineers across the company and foster technical growth and collaboration.
- Influence engineering culture and strategic direction across multiple teams or domains.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience with expertise in database systems, query engines, or storage systems.
- Strong coding skills in C++, Rust, Go, Python, or Java.
- Experience designing and scaling distributed systems or SaaS platforms.
- Proficiency with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure, Kubernetes, Terraform).
- Proven ability to lead complex projects and collaborate across functions.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and ownership skills.
Bonus Qualifications:
- Contributions to open source database technologies (e.g., Apache Arrow, DuckDB, MongoDB Runtime).
- Experience with performance optimization, observability, or large-scale query engines.
- Exposure to data engineering tools or modern frontend frameworks (React, TypeScript).
- Background in distributed, remote-first teams.
