What would your day-to-day look like:
- Planning, investigating, or scoping out an upcoming project that you own.
- Mentoring other team members, either through pair programming or asynchronously through Slack.
- Writing code, reviewing code, and improving code.
- Learning about a new technical concept, service, or GCP feature that provides value to our team.
- While Hopper has a low-meeting culture (no one has more than 10 hours of meetings scheduled at the start of a week, including managers), we find value in regular meetings to discuss ongoing projects with the team and plan work for upcoming sprints.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with Product Managers to define, build, and own the roadmap that aligns with the business objectives.
- Oversee the development and delivery of key projects, including performance measurement reports for hotels and a system for creating unique hotel rates.
- Recruit, mentor, and manage a high-performing engineering team.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture that encourages innovation and continuous improvement.
- Provide technical guidance and support to the engineering team, ensuring the implementation of best practices and high-quality code standards.
- Drive the architectural decisions and technical strategy for the Lodging Rates team.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including data science, pricing and market management, to ensure alignment and successful project execution.
- Communicate project status, risks, and opportunities to stakeholders.
An ideal candidate has:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3+ years in a managerial or leadership role.
- Proven track record of building and leading high-performing engineering teams.
- Strong technical expertise in building scalable systems and data-driven applications.
- Experience with data, data pipeline and data tools.
- Proficiency in Scala or other JVM languages, like Java
- Skilled in various service communication methods including gRPC, pub/sub, REST, SOAP
- Excellent project management skills, with experience in Agile methodologies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in applying first principles thinking to break down complex problems and develop fundamental solutions.
- Demonstrated sense of ownership and accountability for the team's projects.
- Ability to dive deep into complex technical issues and provide detailed insights and solutions.
- Works well with and enjoys working in a product-focused company with a working history of owning features throughout the development life cycle
- Experience with and likes developing in a microservices environment
