About Homebound
Homebound's journey began in the wake of the devastating Tubbs Fire in Northern California in October 2017. Co-founder Nikki Pechet witnessed firsthand the destruction and the immense challenge her neighbors faced in rebuilding their lives after losing their homes. Jack Abraham, the other co-founder, was directly affected, his own home being one of the over 5,600 buildings destroyed in Napa and Sonoma counties. The existing pace of home construction in the area, with only about 400 homes being built annually, starkly highlighted the inadequacy of traditional methods to address a crisis of this magnitude. This personal and communal catastrophe became the crucible for Homebound, founded in 2018 with a mission to revolutionize the homebuilding process.
Initially, Homebound focused on helping communities rebuild after natural disasters, leveraging technology to streamline what was typically a complex, opaque, and painfully slow endeavor. The founders, a team of construction, real estate, and technology experts, aimed to create a more efficient, transparent, and human-centered approach to custom homebuilding. They envisioned a platform that could manage the entire lifecycle of building a home, from navigating insurance claims and architectural design to permitting, construction, and finally, moving in. This tech-enabled model promised to make the journey simpler and more efficient for homeowners. As Homebound honed its processes and technology, its vision expanded beyond disaster recovery. Recognizing a broader need for a better homebuilding experience, the company broadened its services to cater to anyone looking to build a custom home, particularly in markets grappling with low housing supply. Today, Homebound stands as a tech-powered homebuilder, striving to make the dream of building a perfect home accessible to anyone, anywhere, by transforming an often-frustrating process into a seamless and empowering one.
