Pivot Health, a Healthcare.com company, is seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead our Insurtech Platform Team. At Pivot Health, we work with partners across the healthcare and insurance industries to craft products for people who don’t fit in a box. Through our network of agents and our direct-to-consumer website, we sell specialized individual health insurance plans and other products for people who are not a good fit for traditional employer-sponsored group plans or government-sponsored plans.
As the manager of the Insurtech Platform Team, you will lead a remote, multi-national team of software engineers to develop a new platform that will serve as the foundation of Pivot Health’s digital distribution in the future. Reporting to Pivot Health’s Vice President of Technology, you will work with engineering leadership at Pivot and Healthcare.com to shape the company’s technology strategy and create a culture of high quality, high performance, and high expectations. You will be accountable for the successful delivery of your team’s commitments and will work closely with stakeholders to keep them apprised of progress and risks.
Responsibilities:Leadership: Provide strong technical leadership to the software engineering team, fostering a culture of high quality, high performance, and high expectations.Team Management: Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing software engineering team. Develop and nurture a talent pool of skilled engineers, fostering a positive and productive work environment.Technology Strategy: Collaborate with other engineering and business leaders to shape the company’s technology strategy. Ensure alignment between business goals and technical initiatives.Project Management: Work with the VP of Technology and other engineering managers to define and measure KPIs related to team delivery. Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of software projects. Drive the team to meet commitments and deliver high-quality products within scope and budget.Code Quality and Best Practices: Set and enforce high coding standards, best practices, and development processes. Ensure the use of modern technologies and methodologies to achieve optimal results aligned with the technology strategy.Collaboration: Foster effective communication and collaboration across teams, including business operations, product management, design, sales, marketing, and other stakeholders.Innovation: Drive a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to introduce new and relevant practices.Risk Management: Identify potential risks and challenges in projects and proactively develop strategies to mitigate them. Ensure the team is equipped to address unforeseen issues swiftly and effectively.
Qualifications:At least two years of experience as a software engineering manager or in a similar role involving people management, along with previous experience as an individual contributorStrong technical background with expertise in software development and architecture using modern technology stacks in the cloudDemonstrated success in managing and leading high-performance engineering teamsExcellent communication and interpersonal skills with both technical and non-technical audiencesExperience with Agile development methodologies like ScrumExperience working in a DevOps culture where development teams own their software in production and quality and security are “shifted left”Experience working in startups and on greenfield projects is a plusExperience in the insurance or healthcare industry is a plusAbility to travel 2-4 times per year for in-person meetings with the Pivot Health management teamBenefitsOpportunity to work from homeExcellent work environmentMedical, dental, and vision insuranceUp to 15 days of paid time off11 company observed holidays8 weeks of paid parental leave401k plan with company matchLife insuranceProfessional growth opportunityMost importantly, an inclusive company culture established by an incredible team!
