We are Global Canopy, a data-driven not-for-profit organisation that targets the market forces destroying nature. Our vision is of transparent and accountable markets operating within a sustainable and just global economy. Since our founding in 2001, we've been at the forefront of testing innovative approaches to tackle deforestation and shift how companies, investors, and governments worldwide perceive and interact with our planet's vital forests. We focus on improving the transparency and accountability of global supply chains and the trillions of dollars in annual investment and lending that underpin them. The destruction of nature, particularly through deforestation driven by agricultural expansion for commodities like soy, beef, and palm oil, is a critical issue we are committed to addressing. This destruction exacerbates climate change, threatens biodiversity, and impacts the rights and livelihoods of Indigenous Peoples and local communities.

Our core mission revolves around providing innovative open-access data, clear metrics, and actionable insights. We equip leading companies, financial institutions, governments, and campaigning organisations with the tools they need to make better decisions for nature, forests, and people. We believe that by shining a light on the hidden connections between global trade, finance, and environmental impact, we can drive systemic change. Key initiatives like Forest 500, Trase, ENCORE, and our involvement in the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) are central to our strategy. These projects help to identify and rank influential players, map commodity supply chains, and provide frameworks for financial institutions to transition towards deforestation-free portfolios. We work collaboratively with partners around the world, because we understand that solving the twin crises of climate change and nature loss requires a collective effort. We are dedicated to enabling the private sector to identify and manage their impacts on nature and to holding powerful actors accountable for their commitments and actions.
