Software Engineer

What you'll be doing

As a Software Engineer, you’ll work as an integral member of Future’s EcomTech Team, in close collaboration with the wider Technology Engineering department. Your key aim is to ensure the delivery of scalable, well-structured, efficient web applications and components; working on both green-field projects built from the ground up – using the latest libraries and best practice – as well as maintaining and improving existing code. You will be responsible for the scoping and planning of new software components, refactoring existing code, and working with other teams to build new services and products.

About the department

The Technology Engineering department at Future offers a collaborative, collegiate environment where the primary focus is on effective but well-engineered and scalable solutions; to questions posed both by our product and commercial teams as well as from within the department.

We run regular hack days and focus strongly on best practices via tech-based guilds, which then feed into our products and improve developer experience in parallel with the efficiency of our sites and services.

Our delivery teams work directly with tech leads and senior team members, ensuring initiatives are well-scoped and the KPIs are clear.

The personal development of our team members is vital to the success of our department overall so time and resources for training are provided.

Main Responsibilities

• You will develop e-commerce components for Future's platform, which supports brands like Techradar, Space.com, Marie Claire, PC Gamer, Homes Gardens, FourFourTwo, and many others.
• As a software engineer, you will create responsive and performant frontend applications with TypeScript and React, supported by back-end PHP integrations with other Future systems.
• Collaborate with UX teams to ensure design accuracy.
• Ability to write tests using frameworks such as Jest, Cypress and/or PHPUnit.
• You will work with the rest of the team to review both your code and other developers’ before it goes through a final QA process and into production.
• You will be keen to keep up to date with the latest approaches to development and be able to argue for appropriate technology to be added to the stack.
• You will participate in regular hack days, using cutting-edge tech to prototype innovative approaches to business/technical goals.

Experience that will put you ahead of the curve

• Experience communicating updates and resolutions to customers and other partners in both verbal and written English.
• Good understanding and hands-on experience with TypeScript.
• The ability to build components from scratch in React and a full understanding of the component life cycle.
• The ability to build responsive UI components using modern CSS and tools, such as Storybook.
• Working knowledge of Twig or similar templating libraries.
• An understanding of the importance of consistency and standards in software development.
• Experience with CI/CD and DevOps tools and practices, Docker and Kubernetes.

The expected range for this role is CZK 70,000 - CZK 110,000

This is a Remote based role, but we have a significant part of the team regularly present in our office in Brno, so being local is an advantage!
