About the role: This position is performed by an experienced professional and will undertake difficult research, design and software development assignments within a software functional area or product line, and provides direct input to project plans, schedules and methodology in the development of cross-functional software products under the guidance of more senior members of the squad. This position performs software design - typically across multiple components; is developing the skills of mentoring more junior members of the team and works with others to talk to users/customers and translates their requests into solutions.

About the team: This diverse team is actively involved in developing advanced information and decision support tools for healthcare professionals. One notable initiative is the launch of ClinicalKey AI, a generative AI-driven clinical decision support tool developed in partnership with OpenEvidence. This tool offers a conversational search interface, enabling physicians to quickly access accurate, evidence-based medical information, thereby enhancing clinical decision-making at the point of care

Requirements

  • Expertise with backend programming languages including but not limited to: Python, NodeJS, Java
  • Experience with RESTful service/API development
  • Working Knowledge of Database technologies (SQL, NOSQL)
  • Experience leveraging cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Expertise with (shared) source control (Git, Github, Gitlab, SVN)
  • Experience incorporating unit/integration testing into ways of working
  • Excellent communication skills with regards to documentation, presentation to stakeholders, inter-team communication
  • Experience with Docker and a container hosting platform (ECS/Kubernetes/etc.) preferred
  • Experience with data pipeline/batch processing

Responsibilities;

  • Designing and implementing complex features or significant system improvements.
  • Setting quality standards within the team and actively review team members’ code.
  • Contributing to system architecture decisions in their domain and understanding broader system interactions.
  • Mentoring junior and mid-level engineers, promoting best practices in coding, testing, and architecture.
  • Proactively identifying technical debt and advocating for necessary improvements.
  • Demonstrating openness to others’ ideas. Adapts their communication style to most effectively communicate. Effectively and accurately shares credit for ideas and collaborative efforts.
  • Working to understand the purpose of the features the team is working on and helps communicate that purpose to team members. Asks clarifying questions when expectations are unclear.
  • Creating and maintaining internal documentation for the purpose and structure of the systems they're working on. Carefully documents processes that aren’t clear.
  • Showing empathy towards colleagues, be open to feedback, and approach situations with humility, acknowledging that everyone can learn from others.
