As a Product Designer on the Mobile Platform team, you will design experiences to help ecobee homes use cheaper, cleaner and reliable energy. We envision a future whereby all ecobee homes are working in synchronicity with the electricity grid to help deliver a carbon-free supply mix for consumers and their communities.
You will work with a passionate group of energy professionals who partner with some of North America's largest utilities, aggregators and regulators. We have folks with diverse backgrounds including engineering, sales, marketing, and product management. This is a unique opportunity for someone who wishes to apply design thinking to contribute to a sustainable future.
The product design team at ecobee is multi-disciplinary – we work with product managers, engineers, researchers, content designers, marketing and more. You will collaborate with leaders of other disciplines to guide team members to design delightful end-to-end user experiences at every touch point. You will be part of business aspects of the products and constantly advocate for the customers and their experiences in cross-functional settings.
This role is open to being 100% remote within Canada although our home office is in Toronto, Ontario. You may be required to travel to Toronto, Canada once per quarter for team and/or company events.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- You will collaborate with other designers to improve the subscription experience by putting customers at the heart of your process.
- You will contribute to the ecobee design system by creating reusable design patterns.
- You will champion for data-driven design in the organization and share your design knowledge to other Designers, Engineers, and Product Managers.
- You will work with your Product Management counterparts to shape and achieve company objectives and key results (OKRs).
- You will partner with Research to define the qualitative and quantitative data that is required throughout the product development process; design and run experiments and research studies to inform and validate decisions.
- You will consistently solicit and provide unique and insightful feedback in a considerate and constructive fashion.
- You will examine existing processes and establish mechanisms to optimize the way various disciplines work together.
What You’ll Bring to the Table
- 4+ years of professional product design experience
- Experience working and contributing to a design system
- You have a bachelor’s degree in Design (including Graphic Design and Communication Design), Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or a related field), or equivalent degree or work experience.
- You are proficient in using UX tools like Figma, FigJam, prototyping and brainstorming tools.
- You can understand, critically explore, and make insightful connections between theoretical concepts associated with the product design disciplines.
- You have proven experience collaborating with and fostering strong relationships with cross-functional agile teams. You can effectively communicate and negotiate with engineers to deliver a great user experience, while accounting for timelines, technical feasibility, and business needs.
- You are comfortable with using data in iterative decision making. You have experience partnering with research to design and run experiments; take findings, iterate and improve on designs through evaluative and generative research
- Nice to have:
- Experience in designing for native iOS and Android platforms
- Strong visual design skill

Interview Process.
- A 30-minute phone/video call with a member in Talent Acquisition
- A 30-minute video call with a member of the design team— this will be a casual chat to learn more about your past and future career aspirations.
- A 1-hour Portfolio Walkthrough video call with two members of the design team — you will be asked to share one project (or more if you’re inclined to) from your portfolio that you believe best demonstrates your ability for the role.
- A 1-hour Problem Solving Exercise with members from different disciplines at ecobee — you will be presented with a design challenge and a scenario during the interview. No take home challenge, we respect your time!
