The Lead Global Enterprise Architect is a strategic leadership role responsible for defining and implementing the enterprise architecture for Diebold Nixdorf (DN). Through an ongoing commitment to continuous improvement, the role holder ensures that IT architecture aligns with business goals, supports operational efficiency, and leverages technology to drive innovation and competitive advantage.
The role holder adopts a vendor and technology neutral approach, focusing instead on ensuring successful delivery of business outcomes. This is achieved by providing expert technical advice based on objective analysis, ensuring critical technology decisions will secure the agreed goals and are strategically coherent holistically in the long-term.
This is an important role which provides the role holder with an opportunity to make a vital contribution to company success. The emphasis is on providing expertise and creative problem solving to drive superior enterprise architecture decisions. The role holder reports to the Vice President, IT Strategy and Planning.
1. Strategic Leadership:
- Collaborates with IT Business Partners to align IT strategy with business goals.
- Leads the development of the architecture roadmap, ensuring it supports business growth and technological advancements.
- Develops and maintains DN’s enterprise architecture framework to support the company’s strategic objectives.
2. Architecture Development and Governance:
- Provides the critical expert contribution to key technology decisions, providing a balanced, fact-based analysis of the pros and cons between different options and clear, coherent and strategically sound technical recommendations
- Defines and enforces architecture principles, standards, and best practices.
- Oversees the creation and maintenance of architecture artefacts, including models, diagrams, and documentation.
- Leads architectural reviews to ensure architectural effectiveness, compliance and governance.
3. Technology Strategy and Innovation:
- Champions emerging technologies and trends that can enhance business operations and customer experiences.
- Contributes to building a culture of innovation within the IT department and across the organization.
- Evaluates and recommend new technologies, platforms, and frameworks.
4. Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Works closely with IT Business Partners to understand business requirements and translate them into architectural solutions.
- Builds strong relationships with external partners, vendors, and industry experts.
5. Project Oversight and Delivery:
- Provide architectural oversight and guidance for major IT projects and initiatives.
- Ensure that solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with enterprise standards.
- Monitor the implementation of architecture projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
6. Security and Compliance:
- Integrate security and compliance requirements into the architecture design and implementation.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and industry standards (e.g., GDPR, PCI-DSS).
- Work with the security team to develop and enforce robust security practices.
7. Performance Measurement and Continuous Improvement:
- Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of the enterprise architecture.
- Continuously assess and improve architectural processes and methodologies.
- Conduct regular architecture assessments and reviews.
Education:
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, System Analysis or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Experience:
- Proven experience in senior enterprise architecture roles.
- Experience working with banking and retail sectors is highly desirable.
Technical Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g. TOGAF, Gartner, Zachman).
- Knowledge of business ecosystems, software as a service (SaaS), infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), SOA, APIs, open data, microservices, event-driven IT and predictive analytics.
- Knowledge of business models, operating models, financial models, cost-benefit and trade-off analysis, budgeting, and risk management.
- Strong understanding of cloud computing, IoT, AI/ML, data analytics, and cybersecurity.
- Proficiency in architectural modelling tools and methodologies.
- Understanding of the different types of agile principles, methodologies and frameworks, especially those designed to be scaled at enterprise level.
- Understanding of existing, new and emerging technologies, such as generative AI and its applications.
- Familiarity with EA tools, graphical modelling approaches and repository management.
- Excellent analytical, planning and organization skills.

- This position may require occasional travel to global offices, customer sites, and industry events.
- Flexible working arrangements, including remote work, may be available.
Salary Range: $155,000 to $190,000. Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including your qualifications, skills, competencies, geographic location, internal equity, and relevant experience. You may also be eligible to participate in a long term incentive plan and a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the plan and/or program, whereby an award, if any, may depend on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
