About the role:
Reporting to, and under the general supervision of the Manager, Translation, the Senior French Editor and Translator is responsible for reviewing English to French translations, translating content from English to French, and proofreading documents. Additionally, the successful candidate will help in maintaining the Translation Services linguistic databases, style guide and any reference documents for which the team is responsible, as well as performing ongoing quality assessments of the translation suppliers. Finally, the Senior French Editor and Translator contributes to the promotion of linguistic duality in the workplace through leading relevant internal initiatives.
Key accountabilities
- Revise documents translated by the internal team and external suppliers.
- Perform translation quality control to ensure concordance, accuracy, clarity, etc.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive terminology management database.
- Stay up to date with tourism and government-related terminology.
- Support development and implementation of innovative translation processes.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal clients, external suppliers and networks.
- Ensure quality standards are met.
What you need
- Graduation from a recognized university in translation, terminology, linguistics or other relevant discipline or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in English-to-French translation experience, including at least 2 years in a reviewer or reviser role (editing, proofreading, or comparative review of translated content).
- Expert knowledge of the French language.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, in French and English.
- Expert-level editing, proofreading, translation, and research skills to ensure the integrity, tone, and quality of French-language content are of the highest standards prior to release to diverse audiences.
- Professional working knowledge of translation software and terminology management, trends and best practices in translation, editing, comparative review and terminology.
- Experience working with external translation suppliers, reviewing their work, assessing its quality and providing feedback on the quality of their work.
- Experience updating and maintaining French Language terminology databases for use in translation, and other linguistic reference material such as style guides.
- Experience with a variety of complex materials, including financial statements, video content and social media posts.
- Good command of standard MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Proven ability to deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational skills and the capacity to reassess and manage competing priorities, sometimes on short notice.
- Demonstrated initiative and adaptability — thrives in evolving environments, embraces new technologies, and contributes to continuous improvement.
- Effective people and project-management skills, with a service-oriented mindset.
- Ability to tactfully provide advice and feedback to colleagues and external suppliers to improve the quality of content.
- A true team player who’s equally effective working independently — ready to pitch in and support others when it counts.
It would be great if you also had
- Experience working with computer assisted translation (CAT) tools (Trados-Studio) a strong asset.
- Exposure to Neural Machine Translation output improvement, an asset.
- Being a member of a professional translators’ association is an asset.
Compensation
Salary range: $72,177 - $90,221
Within the range, the base pay offered is determined by multiple factors, including job-related skills and relevant education/experience. Please note starting salaries for new hires typically fall between the minimum and mid-point of the range, to support internal equity and allow room for progression as employees grow and excel in their roles. The range above reflects base pay only and does not include the competitive at-risk pay program and benefits that we offer!

Things you should know:
- This role is remote for candidates based outside Vancouver or Ottawa. If fully remote, occasional travel to our headquarters in Vancouver, BC, may be required. Candidates located in Vancouver or Ottawa will follow a hybrid work model.
