Founded in Montreal 37 years ago, Transat A.T. Inc. began its journey in 1987 when an initial public offering raised $8.25 million. This pivotal moment allowed the company to acquire Vacances Multitour and, significantly, to launch its own airline, Air Transat, with its inaugural flight marking the beginning of a new era in leisure travel. Originally established in the early 1980s as 'Trafic Voyages' by Jean-Marc Eustache, Lina De Cesare, and Philippe Sureau, the company specialized as a wholesaler for travel from Québec to France. The rebranding to Transat and its subsequent public listing were strategic moves to solidify its position and expand its offerings.

Throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, Transat embarked on a series of acquisitions to strengthen its foothold as an outgoing tour operator in Canada and France, while also developing new destination markets. A notable early expansion was into the French market with Vacances Transat (France). The company's growth continued with the acquisition of Look Voyages in 1996 and further expansion into European markets. Over the years, Transat has grown into a leading integrated international tourism company, specializing in holiday travel, vacation packages, hotel stays, and air travel under the well-recognized Air Transat brand. The airline has consistently received accolades, including being voted World's Best Leisure Airline multiple times at the Skytrax World Airline Awards. Transat's commitment to sustainable tourism has also been a key part of its evolution, achieving Travelife certification in 2018 for all its activities, a first for a major international tour operator. Today, Transat serves numerous international destinations and focuses on providing enthusiastic and friendly customer service, while also prioritizing environmental responsibility by modernizing its fleet with fuel-efficient aircraft.
