Job Summary:

Lead Instructors at Correlation One are responsible for delivering high-quality, live, virtual instruction and partnering with company personnel to drive exceptional learning outcomes. Their main focus as educators is to conduct large synchronous online lectures on technical content, training anywhere from 100 to 8,000+ diverse participants at a time, depending on the program. This role involves preparing and leading virtual classroom sessions, collaborating with operations personnel, and contributing to the overall success of the program.

Program Specific Information:

The Apex America Initiative’s High School AI Championship is America's first AI competition designed to identify and develop the nation’s next generation of artificial intelligence leaders. Open to all U.S. high school students ages 14-18, this groundbreaking competition combines rigorous technical assessment with real-world problem solving, mentorship from industry leaders, and life-changing opportunities.

The Apex America Initiative’s High School AI Championship will include two (2) expert-led AI learning labs where high school students are introduced to foundational AI concepts, tools, and use-cases, as well as coached on specific AI tools and strategies for succeeding in our championship. These learning labs are central to delivering value to participants and ensuring the program’s credibility as a top AI/STEM learning experience for high school students.

We are currently looking to hire two (2) Lead Instructors, each to lead virtual sessions on one of the following two AI learning labs:

AI LEARNING LAB #1

Topic:AI 101: Foundations, Frameworks, and Why Data is King

Date Time (tentative): Monday, November 10; 7:30 – 8:30 pm ET

Purpose:Establishes a shared foundational understanding of AI concepts, terminology, and data fundamentals before diving into more complex technical or strategic discussions. Covers distinctions between machine learning types, the AI model lifecycle, and the critical role of data quality, quantity, and representation. Sets the baseline so all participants, regardless of prior experience, can meaningfully engage in subsequent sessions.

Desired Outcomes:

  • Understand what AI is (and isn’t) in simple, relatable terms
  • Understand commonly used terminology related to AI (particularly related to the field of Machine Learning and the subfield of GenAI)
  • Recognize the different types of machine learning (supervised, unsupervised, reinforcement) and how they might appear in a game context
  • Introduce AI ethics and methods for designing and using AI responsibly
  • Grasp the importance of data quality in AI performance
  • Build confidence that they can “speak the language” of AI before diving deeper’

AI LEARNING LAB #2

Topic:From Idea to AI: Building Smarter Game Strategies

Date Time (tentative): Thursday, November 13; 7:30 – 8:30 pm ET

Purpose:Learn the skills needed to excel in Apex and beyond. Introduces Python, algorithm design, iterative refinement cycles, and how to use GenAI to help you code and strategize.

Desired Outcomes:

  • Recognize and know how to implement steps of AI Life Cycle iteratively when developing their algorithms
  • See how game strategies and AI overlap (e.g. predicting opponent moves, optimizing resource use, adapting to changing conditions)
  • Begin thinking about algorithms as decision-making machines (leveraging knowledge of Machine Learning and its relevant subsets - supervised learning, unsupervised learning, and reinforcement learning)
  • Leave excited to apply structured thinking to their own algorithms in the competition

Virtual Classroom Leadership:

  • Prepare and lead virtual classroom sessions for a range of participants, which may vary in size from 200 to 8,000+.
  • Deliver instruction on skills tailored to participants’ needs, including math, verbal reasoning, and technical problem-solving.
  • Oversee the management of class time QA and monitor chat flow, and overall class energy and engagement dynamics.

Collaboration:

  • Collaborate closely with Correlation One operations personnel to ensure smooth program delivery and adherence to schedules.
  • Be flexible in contributing to classes during weekdays and/or weekends, as program schedules vary.
  • Assist in lesson design, development, and improvement which may include tracking edits, suggestions, or changes to curriculum as needed, as well as engaging with any related Correlation One proprietary software/technology for curriculum context

    • Interact professionally with participants, Correlation One staff, additional contractors, and guest speakers, maintaining a high level of courtesy and respect.

Lecture Preparation:

    • Diligently and adequately prepare for lectures to ensure the delivery of high-quality content.

Responsiveness and Empathy:

    • Be highly responsive and empathetic to participants, providing thoughtful answers and assistance throughout the lesson.
    • Adjust the lesson pace and presentation to meet the needs of diverse participants while also maintaining responsibility for timely delivery of the prepared content.
    • Exhibit an energy, pacing, and ability to make complex topics accessible and maintain strong learner engagement.

Communication:

    • Communicate respectfully, recognizing that online or written communication may lack tone.
    • Maintain extra communicative contact with Correlation One personnel.

Positive Attitude:

    • Foster a healthy learning environment by maintaining a positive attitude and promoting a culture of learning.

Course Improvement:

    • Contribute to course improvement by providing thoughtful and transparent feedback to the Correlation One team.

Your expertise

We are seeking instructors who can bring technical depth and engaging presence to a high school audience using topical presentation content provided by Correlation One. Ideal candidates will have:

  • Strong knowledge of AI fundamentals — including machine learning concepts, data fundamentals, algorithms, and ethics in AI — with the ability to explain them in accessible, real-world terms.
  • Experience teaching, mentoring, or presenting to high school students (ages 14–18) or similar audiences; comfort in adjusting tone, pace, and delivery for learners with varying levels of STEM and AI experience.
  • Engaging communication skills, with the ability to make complex technical ideas understandable, interactive, and inspiring.
  • Familiarity with gamification and applied learning approaches; interest in connecting AI concepts to fun, competitive, and game-based learning experiences.
  • Inclusive and empathetic teaching style, able to foster a positive and supportive virtual classroom environment for students from all backgrounds.
  • Comfort with virtual teaching tools and large-group facilitation (video conferencing, chat moderation, polls, breakout rooms, etc.).
  • Adaptability and collaboration, working with Correlation One staff to ensure smooth delivery and tailoring your presentation style to align with provided curriculum and program goals.
  • Commitment toequity, diversity, and accessibility, helping ensure that every participant feels represented, respected, and motivated to succeed in AI and STEM.
  • Dedication to student safety and privacy, including respecting confidentiality, safeguarding minors in all interactions, and modeling professional standards when engaging with participants.

  • This role is remote and can be located anywhere that is compatible with the EST time zone. We are headquartered in New York City and have office space in Midtown Manhattan.
