We're seeking a hands-on Head of Engineering to lead a critical unit within the Endless Lifecycle Support product, consisting of approximately 15 talented engineers. This isn't just a management role, it's about being in the trenches, driving architectural excellence, and directly contributing to the code as we scale. You'll be the technical backbone and cultural champion for your team, guiding them through the exciting challenges of a fast-paced startup environment. It's also about being the technical architect, the primary problem-solver, and a direct contributor as we scale.

You'll be instrumental in translating our ambitious product vision into robust, scalable, and highly automated solutions. Your leadership will directly influence our efficiency, product quality, and delivery speed. This role is for an enthusiastic leader who lives and breathes Linux and Automation and Open Source, excels at technical execution, and can inspire a team to deliver quickly and effectively.

As our Head of Engineering, you will:

  • Lead a highly effective technical unit of about 20 engineers, balancing direct code contribution in Python (or full-stack development) with strategic oversight and mentorship.
  • Champion Linux-first development and automation principles across all projects, ensuring our systems are robust, efficient, and scalable.
  • Drive architectural strategy and implementation, building high-performance, automated solutions.
  • Ensure the highest standards of code quality, system reliability, and operational efficiency for all deliverables.
  • Act as a player-coach, diving into code to solve complex technical challenges and setting the example for the team.
  • Collaborate closely with product management and executive leadership, translating ideas and hypotheses into technical implementation aggressively and fast.
  • Actively recruit, mentor, and foster the growth of your engineering team, building a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.

Requirements

The ideal candidate is a deeply technical and experienced leader who brings:

  • Exceptional Python Proficiency: A strong track record of building complex, high-performance, and scalable systems using Python. Experience with full-stack development is a plus.
  • Deep Linux Expertise: A profound understanding of Linux operating systems at an architectural and operational level; you truly understand the OS, not just its applications.
  • Automation Mastery: Proven success in implementing automation principles and tools to transform manual processes into highly efficient workflows.
  • Leadership Management:
    • 10+ years of hands-on software development experience.
    • At least 3-5 years in a leadership role (e.g., Engineering Manager, Director of Engineering) overseeing a team of similar size (around 20 engineers).
    • A strong, enthusiastic, and results-oriented leadership style with a clear bias for action and fast delivery.
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and inspire engineering teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Startup Acumen: Experience working in startup environments, comfortable with ambiguity, rapid iteration, and high ownership.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts and strategic direction to both engineers and executives.
  • Commitment: A commitment to building secure and reliable systems.

Why You'll Love Working Here

  • Lead with Impact: Directly shape our core product and engineering culture, seeing immediate results from your leadership and code.
  • Linux Automation at Core: Work in an environment where your passion for Linux and automation drives everything we do.
  • Fast-Paced Startup Culture: Thrive in a dynamic, high-ownership culture where your ideas are valued, quickly implemented, and directly impact our growth.
  • Hands-On Contribution: Maintain a strong technical edge with significant opportunities for direct code contribution.
  • Growth Autonomy: Unlock substantial professional growth and autonomy in driving key technical decisions.

View company profile

CloudLinux is dedicated to enhancing the security, stability, and profitability of Linux for hosting providers and data centers. With a collective experience of over 500 years in Linux, the company is transforming how these entities utilize the technology, extending its benefits to millions of their customers. CloudLinux boasts over 500,000 product installations and serves more than 4,000 customers, including prominent names like Liquid Web, 1&1, and Dell. The company merges profound technical expertise in hosting, kernel development, and open source with exceptional client care. Cloud Linux, Inc. was consolidated into Cloud Linux Software, Inc., which now operates under the TUXCARE trade name (DBA).

The core offering, CloudLinux OS, is specifically engineered for shared hosting environments. It isolates each tenant into a Lightweight Virtualized Environment (LVE), which partitions, allocates, and limits server resources such as CPU, memory, I/O, and the number of processes. This prevents any single user from monopolizing server resources and causing performance degradation or downtime for other users on the same server. This LVE technology is a key differentiator, ensuring a more stable and reliable hosting environment. CloudLinux OS also incorporates features like CageFS, a virtualized file system that encapsulates each user, preventing them from seeing each other's sensitive information or accessing server configuration files. This significantly enhances security in a multi-tenant setup. Furthermore, HardenedPHP ensures the security of the host system by automatically patching older and unsupported PHP versions. The OS is compatible with major control panels like cPanel, Plesk, and DirectAdmin, facilitating easier adoption and management for hosting providers. Beyond the operating system, CloudLinux has expanded its product portfolio with solutions like Imunify360, a comprehensive security suite for Linux web servers, and KernelCare, which provides automated, rebootless kernel patching. The company also initiated AlmaLinux OS, a free, open-source, community-driven enterprise-grade Linux distribution intended as a CentOS alternative, and continues to sponsor the AlmaLinux OS Foundation.
