The Role:

The Sr. Software Engineer at Carrot owns ambiguous problems and delivers end-to-end solutions that serve our business goals. You lead projects and drive technical direction, coordinating with other engineers and making decisions that shape how systems evolve. You partner directly with Product, Design, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into high-quality software.

Engineers at this level can expect to operate with autonomy. Be prepared to navigate uncertainty, make sound technical tradeoffs, and deliver outcomes without waiting for detailed specs. You balance shipping with sustainable practices, and you elevate the engineers around you through informal mentorship and leading by example..

In this role, you will:

  • Own delivery of complex features and systems end-to-end, from requirements through production
  • Lead projects that may span multiple engineers or touch multiple systems, keeping work on track and stakeholders informed
  • Make architectural and technical decisions for your team's domain, and contribute to broader engineering standards
  • Partner with Product, Design, and other functions to understand problems deeply before jumping to solutions
  • Mentor other engineers informally, either through pairing, code review, and helping others navigate ambiguity
  • Improve how the team works: contributing to team org-level processes and shaping engineering culture
  • Maintain production systems your team owns, including participating in on-call rotations and incident response

The Team:

  • Reporting to an Engineering Manager, you'll work closely with Product and Design as a technical partner on initiatives. Engineering teams at Carrot move quickly with a lean mindset, and senior engineers are expected to help set that pace while ensuring we're building things that last.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience as a software engineer, with demonstrated ownership of complex projects
  • Track record of leading work that involved ambiguity and challenges. You know how to peel back the layers of the onion.
  • Experience in making technical decisions and living with the outcomes
  • Comfortable influencing without authority: you can drive alignment
  • Strong communication skills: you write clearly and can explain your reasoning
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools and opinions about where they add value
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS
  • Familiarity with observability, incident response, and operating systems in production

Nice to have:

  • Experience in healthcare, benefits, or other regulated environments
  • Experience building with C#, .NET Core, TypeScript, React
  • Exposure to B2B2C product models

Compensation:

Carrot offers a holistic Total Rewards package designed to support our employees in all aspects of their life inside and outside of work, including health and wellness benefits, retirement savings plans, short- and long-term incentives, parental leave, family-forming assistance, and a competitive compensation package. The starting base salary for this position will range from Sr. Software Engineer I ($120,000.00 - $150,000.00) to Sr. Software Engineer II ($150,000.00 - $180,000.00). Actual compensation may vary from posted base salary depending on your confirmed job-related skills and experience.

Carrot Fertility's customers, whether they are employers or individuals, often face significant challenges when navigating the complexities of fertility care and family-building. These journeys can be emotionally taxing, financially burdensome, and incredibly confusing due to the sheer volume of information and the deeply personal nature of the decisions involved. Many individuals and couples struggle with the high costs of treatments like IVF or egg freezing, which are often not adequately covered by traditional health insurance. They may also find it difficult to access reliable, expert guidance tailored to their specific needs, including support for adoption, surrogacy, or LGBTQ+ family-building paths. Furthermore, the process can feel isolating, with a lack of understanding or support in the workplace and society at large. This is why Carrot Fertility was founded: to provide comprehensive, inclusive, and accessible fertility and family-forming benefits.

Our customers are looking for solutions that simplify this complex landscape, offer financial relief, and provide compassionate, expert support every step of the way. Carrot Fertility addresses these needs by partnering with employers to offer a flexible benefits program that covers a wide range of services, from fertility preservation and treatments to adoption and gestational carrier services, as well as lifelong hormonal health support, including menopause and low testosterone. We empower our members by providing personalized care navigation, access to a global network of vetted clinics and specialists, and a user-friendly platform with educational resources. For employers, the challenge lies in attracting and retaining top talent while managing healthcare costs and fostering an inclusive workplace culture. By offering Carrot, companies demonstrate a commitment to their employees' overall well-being, supporting diverse paths to parenthood and family life. This not only helps employees feel valued and supported but also contributes to a more productive and engaged workforce. Our goal is to ensure that everyone, regardless of age, race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or geography, has the resources and support they need to build their families and manage their hormonal health with confidence and dignity.
