About Kiva

We are an international nonprofit, founded in 2005 with a mission to expand financial access to help underserved communities thrive. We envision a financially inclusive world where all people hold the power to improve their lives. With over 1.7 billion people around the world being unbanked, they lack access to the financial services they need to build a better future. We address this challenge head-on by crowdfunding loans and unlocking capital for the underserved, improving the quality and cost of financial services, and tackling the underlying barriers to financial access around the world. Through our work, students can pay for tuition, women can start businesses, farmers are able to invest in equipment, and families can afford needed emergency care.

Our platform is a global marketplace where individuals can lend as little as $25 to crowdfund micro-loans, serving the financially excluded in sectors like education, water, clean energy, and refugee resettlement. Since our founding, we have connected millions of people through lending, facilitating over $1.68 billion in loans to more than 4 million borrowers across 77 countries, all with a 96% repayment rate. We are fueled by passionate people and a community of 2 million lenders who believe in creating a world where everyone has the opportunity they need to succeed. 100% of every dollar you lend on Kiva goes directly to funding these loans, making a real, tangible difference in someone's life. We are a team dedicated to creating opportunity and fostering a global community of support, one loan at a time.
