Job Description

Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.

Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!

Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.

Where and how you can work

Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work, we trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers building the data infrastructure, backend services and clients to capture and connect behavioural analytics and system telemetry.

  • Drive the design and evolution of scalable event ingestion and processing systems.

  • Partner with teams across product, infra, and data to ensure systems are impactful and reliable.

  • Embed privacy-by-design principles into our tracking architecture.

  • Foster a high-performing team through coaching, feedback, and inclusive leadership.

  • Help shape the future of how data informs decision-making across Canva by supporting other services of the group e.g. A/B testing with the foundations and data required.

You're probably a match if

  • You bring experience leading engineering teams focused on data platforms and backend infrastructure.

  • You have a deep understanding of distributed systems, event processing, or analytics pipelines

  • You’ve worked with frontend instrumentation at scale, and understand how to manage and evolve clients that are embedded across every page of an application.

  • You’re comfortable coaching engineers across both frontend and backend, and guiding architecture decisions

  • You love coaching and mentoring engineers and have a track record in making people grow and do their best work.

  • You approach problems with a product mindset and collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to drive impact.

  • You care about data ethics and apply privacy-by-design principles in your work.

  • You’re passionate about empowering others to make data-informed decisions through reliable and accurate data.

  • You value clear, concise communication – whether it's explaining technical decisions, guiding your team, or aligning with stakeholders, you make complex ideas accessible to everyone.

  • You thrive in ambiguity, set clear direction, and inspire alignment across diverse teams

About the team

We’re part of the Product Insights Enablement group within the Product Platform supergroup—empowering every product team at Canva to build confidently with data. The Product Analytics team is the central engine for user behaviour analytics. Our mission is to make behavioural data discoverable, trustworthy, and actionable—so teams can ask better questions, run meaningful experiments, and design delightful experiences. We're building a robust ecosystem that not only surfaces what users do, but why—by linking system signals like reliability and performance with user outcomes, all while protecting user privacy.

About the role
We're seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a high-impact team working at the intersection of data analytics, platform infrastructure, and frontend instrumentation. You'll manage a team of backend and frontend engineers responsible for the systems that capture, enrich, expose and connect user behaviour and system telemetry. You'll partner with product, data, and infra teams to ensure these signals are accurate, scalable, and easy to use—helping every team at Canva understand the full picture of product experience.

Canva is a graphic design platform, used to create social media graphics, presentations, posters, documents and other visual content.

Before Canva, creating a professional looking design was a complex process - you had to purchase expensive software; learn how to use it; purchase stock photography and fonts for the software; decide on a layout; slice images; receive photos and content via email; design something; upload and email the pdf only to find revisions needed to be made … and then finally be able to prepare your design for web or print.

Since launching in August 2013, Canva has been changing the way in which we communicate. Today our design tool has attracted over 15 million happy users across 190 countries, who have collectively created more than 1 billion designs.

With an integrated marketplace that has both free and paid stock photography, fonts, illustrations, and thousands of templates; a paid subscription that offers the ability to set up a brand kit so users can save their brand colours, fonts and assets, and ensure consistency across their designs; and a print service that gives our users the ability to produce professional prints in a variety of formats and sizes, delivered straight to their doorstep - Canva is disrupting the way we design.
