Penguin Publishing Group’s backlist team is looking for a creative, team-oriented marketing and publicity assistant to help us reach new readers for our beloved backlist books—which are books that have been published for more than one year. From wellness and business to romance and commercial fiction, we focus on the books that are trending right now, across genres and regardless of when they were published. This is a great opportunity for a candidate who has a strong interest in current events and trends and loves the idea of being able to work with bestselling books and top author brands from all of Penguin Publishing Group’s imprints.
Reporting to a senior publicity manager and a senior marketing manager, this role will give the ideal candidate the opportunity to learn both aspects of the business in a fast-paced, fun, and highly collaborative environment.
Responsibilities:
- Support the implementation of marketing and publicity initiatives that achieve impact across a range of channels
- Help manage Penguin Publishing Group’s LinkedIn and Pinterest channels including creating engaging posts and consistently reporting on each channel’s performance
- Assist in publicity outreach for backlist feature campaigns, including seeking media opportunities and maintaining author media schedules
- Help maintain strong working relationships with relevant media contacts, including building media lists and updating databases
- Conduct influencer research and assist in influencer outreach
- Help oversee media monitoring for the group
- Assist in writing press materials, including press releases and pitches
- Coordinate the creation of marketing assets, including writing copy and providing design direction
- Create themed book collection pages for promotion using PRH’s webpage creation tool (no HTML knowledge necessary)
- Participate in regular brainstorming sessions to identify new and upcoming opportunities for backlist promotion
- Assist on a variety of other tasks, including sending book mailings, scheduling meetings, and creating presentations
Minimum requirements
- No prior publishing experience required
- Equal interest in both marketing and publicity
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills
- Creative thinker who’s excited to participate in brainstorming
- Strong interest in current events and the news
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience using Canva to create social graphics OR an eye for design with interest in learning Canva
- Previous social media management experience a plus
- Experience working as part of a remote team a plus
