Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Corporate Counsel to join our North American legal team. The Corporate Counsel will report to the Associate General Counsel and provide legal advice and support on all legal matters affecting APLL’s North American operations, including, commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, and business litigation. This role requires a proactive and strategic thinker who can navigate the complexities of the transportation and logistics industry while solving business and legal problems in a timely and practical manner.
Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts, including transportation agreements, leases, vendor contracts, and service agreements.
- Provide legal guidance to internal customers and management on a broad range of business issues related to the transportation and logistics industry.
- Establish and maintain relationships with key internal stakeholders to ensure proactive legal involvement and solicitation of assistance.
- Conduct legal research and provide counsel on various legal issues impacting the company.
- Assist in the development and implementation of company policies and procedures.
- Monitor changes in laws and regulations that may affect the company's operations and provide training and updates to relevant stakeholders.
- Proactively identify and advise on risks associated with the general business functions.
- Participate in litigation matters and investigations as required.
- Manage outside counsel when retained to: (i) address issues requiring special expertise; or (ii) represent the Group’s interests in litigation.
- Integrate into team and provide support to other members as needed.
Keys Results:
- Support Business Units, Functions and Regions with legal advice and representation necessary to achieve business objectives and minimize risk.
- Manage external legal counsel to ensure that the company’s interests are protected and costs minimized.
- Deliver improved policies, procedures or documents aligned to the objectives of the Group Legal strategic work plan, striving for best practices.
- Provide timely, accurate, cost effective and well-organized advice to business clients within the Group.
- Support Code of Conduct compliance functions, in terms of policy setting, training, enforcement, and internal investigations.
- Ability and willingness to engage with business clients and become an integral part of the business and commercial processes of the Company.
- Willingness and capacity to learn and expand personal portfolio and competencies.
- Integrate into team and provide support to other members as needed.
Qualifications:
- JD degree from accredited law school.
- Active membership in good standing with at least one state bar.
- Minimum of 4 years of legal experience, preferably with a focus on transportation, logistics, or related industries.
- Strong knowledge of commercial contract law and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent negotiation, drafting, and communication skills.
- Excellent research, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across functions in a fast-paced, international environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Experience with litigation management and dispute resolution.
- Native Level English: Reading, Writing, and Speaking
- Some Domestic and International Travel Required.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Second Language Preferred, with a strong preference for Mandarin, Cantonese, Hindi, German, Japanese or Spanish
- Additional Bar Admission Preferred: a European Union jurisdiction, India, China, or a LTAM country

Candidates must be within 250 miles of an APL Logistics facility or office.
The typical starting salary range for this position is: $122,150 - $155,000.
The actual salary offer will take into account multiple factors including skills, experience, education and location. Please note that the salary details listed in role postings reflect the base salary only, not total compensation, which includes bonus and benefits.
