Ready to help shape the UK's water future?

We're looking for a motivated and ambitious Assistant Project Manager to support one of the largest and most complex infrastructure programmes the UK water sector has seen in decades. As part of our multi-billion-pound Strategic Reservoir Programme-including the Fens and Lincolnshire reservoirs-you'll be at the heart of a nationally significant project that will help secure water supplies for generations to come.

Supporting the development of the Lincs reservoir, embedded in the Programme Management Team, you'll work closely with the Project Manager across all stages of the project lifecycle - from RAPID regulatory submissions to planning (DCO) and procurement. You'll also manage key work packages (up to £5m), gaining hands-on experience and visibility on a truly career-defining programme.

We're after someone who's passionate about infrastructure and the water sector, and thrives on complexity and challenge. You'll be proactive, eager to learn, and excited to contribute from day one. Strong IT skills, attention to detail and the confidence to engage with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders are key.

What we're looking for:

  • A quick learner with strong IT skills
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and full of initiative
  • Excels at solving complex challenges and driving projects forward
  • A confident communicator who builds strong relationships
  • Able to thrive working remotely with a flexible, can-do attitude

This is more than just a support role - it's your chance to make an impact, work on projects that matter, and develop your skills in a supportive, forward-thinking environment.

What you'll be doing:

  • Project Management
Support the end-to-end delivery of a major reservoir project by assisting with cost control, scheduling, risk management, reporting, and process improvement.
You'll help keep the programme on track across all phases-from regulatory milestones through to construction and commissioning.
  • Stakeholder Management
Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment with engagement strategies.
You'll contribute to communications, reporting, and coordination across departments and Water Partnerships.
  • Regulatory Compliance
Assist in meeting regulatory requirements, including RAPID and DWI/EA consultations.
Help prepare key documentation and support engagement efforts to secure stakeholder confidence in project solutions.
  • Governance
Support governance processes, helping to prepare reports, track approvals, and assist with board-level updates and change control.
You'll play a key role in maintaining compliance with Anglian Water's project and contract management standards.

What does it take to be an Assistant Project Manager?

  • Background in infrastructure development, including design and build projects
  • Experience in the water sector and appreciation of Development Consent Order (DCO) projects
  • Familiarity with NEC contracts, CDM regulations, and health safety standards
  • APM PFQ or equivalent and working towards APM PMQ (Practitioner level)
  • Health Safety certifications relevant to construction or infrastructure (e.g. IOSH Managing Safely)
  • Valid driving licence
  • Strong project management and organisational skills
  • Clear and confident communicator, able to build relationships and influence
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently

As a valued employee, you'll be entitled to:

  • Personal private health care
  • 26 days annual leave - rising with length of service
  • Flexible working
  • Competitive pension scheme - Anglian Water double-matches your contributions up to 7%
  • Bonus scheme
  • Flexible benefits to support your wellbeing and lifestyle

Why join us?

  • Play a key role on one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in the UK
  • Gain deep exposure to regulatory processes, planning law, and high-value procurement
  • Fast-track your project management career in a high-profile environment
  • Work with industry-leading experts and shape the future of water resilience in the UK

If you're ready to accelerate your career while making a real difference, we'd love to hear from you.

About Anglian Water

The journey of Anglian Water began under a different guise, born from the Water Act of 1973 which established ten regional water authorities across England and Wales. The Anglian Water Authority was formed to manage the water supply and sewerage services for the vast, and notably dry, East of England. For over a decade and a half, it operated as a public entity, laying the foundational infrastructure for a region that is geographically the largest of any water company in England and Wales. This period was defined by the challenge of serving a sprawling area that stretches from the Humber Estuary down to the Thames Estuary, encompassing some of the UK's most vital agricultural land.

A pivotal transformation occurred in 1989 with the privatisation of the water industry. This event marked the birth of Anglian Water Services Limited as a private company. No longer a government body, the newly formed company embarked on a new chapter, driven by a dual mandate: to deliver reliable water and recycling services to a growing population while operating as a commercial enterprise. This transition unleashed significant investment into the region's water infrastructure. Since 1989, the company has poured billions of pounds into improving services, upgrading treatment works, and laying thousands of kilometres of pipes. Its mission evolved into a purpose-driven strategy encapsulated by the motto 'Love Every Drop', reflecting the unique challenge of operating in the UK's driest region. This commitment was formally embedded in its constitution in 2019, legally binding the company to prioritize environmental and social prosperity alongside shareholder returns. Today, Anglian Water serves almost seven million people, navigating the complex challenges of climate change, population growth, and environmental protection, while planning for a resilient future with major infrastructure projects like new reservoirs and strategic pipelines.
