AAA WCNY

The story of AAA Western and Central New York began at the turn of the 20th century, a time when the automobile was a novel invention and roads were little more than dirt paths. In 1900, motoring enthusiasts in Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse formed their own local automobile clubs to advocate for better roads and the rights of drivers. These early pioneers were instrumental in the formation of the national American Automobile Association (AAA) just two years later, laying the groundwork for a century of automotive advocacy.

Over the decades, these separate clubs evolved alongside the changing landscape of American transportation. From the introduction of the first roadside service for stranded motorists in 1915 to the establishment of the School Safety Patrol program in 1920, the organization consistently expanded its mission to serve the community. As the needs of members grew, so did the clubs, eventually merging to form the powerhouse that is AAA Western and Central New York today. What started as a small group of hobbyists has grown into Upstate New York's largest member services organization, serving over 880,000 members with a comprehensive suite of travel, insurance, financial, and automotive services, all while maintaining a steadfast commitment to safety and community service.
