Youri van der Meer
@yourivandermeer
Embedded Software Engineer focused on reliable firmware, debug, and system integration.
What I'm looking for
I build and own firmware for embedded systems, from structured architecture to practical debugging and validation. I’ve worked across the full development path—designing circuitry/PCBs when needed, developing firmware, and aligning my work with the wider machine stack.
At Bruker Optics I took over firmware work on PIC-based devices (PIC32 and PIC16). I tackled TCP communication issues with FreeRTOS, then successfully restructured the approach using state machines. I also worked on bootloader-based Ethernet firmware updates to simplify field updates and learned deeply how storage and behavior work on microcontrollers.
Through TCPM I expanded beyond pure embedded software by delivering projects like AMR control via VueJS/Nuxt with PostgreSQL and PLC programming (Rockwell Studio 5000) for hydrogen-boat systems using Structured Text, Ladder, and PackML. Since October 2025 at Prince Technologies, I develop firmware for a blood and urine analysis machine where modules communicate over CAN using STM32 controllers—debugging, writing unit tests, and ensuring integration end-to-end.

Work history, roles, and key accomplishments
Embedded Software Engineer
Prince Technologies
Oct 2025 - Present (8 months)
Developed embedded firmware for a blood and urine analysis machine, integrating a specific CAN-connected subsystem with the main controller and corresponding web application stack. Debugs, writes unit tests, and ensures end-to-end integration across firmware and software layers.
Software Engineer
TCPM
Sep 2022 - Oct 2025 (3 years 1 month)
Delivered embedded-adjacent engineering assignments across multiple client environments, including web-based automation controls and PLC system development for industrial/industrial marine use cases. Broadened capabilities across JavaScript/Vue-based frontends and Rockwell PLC programming with structured design and testing support.
Hardware & Software Engineer
Bruker Optics
Dec 2020 - Aug 2022 (1 year 8 months)
Developed firmware for PIC-based embedded devices used in milk analysis R&D, taking ownership after minimal prior firmware progress. Reworked the TCP/RTOS approach using state machines and supported firmware update workflows via an Ethernet-capable bootloader while advancing schematic and PCB design.
Prototype Marker Internship
Acquaint B.V.
Feb 2020 - Jun 2020 (4 months)
Built a prototype marker cabinet to determine underground pipe locations by detecting a beacon inside a PIG passing through the pipe. Designed and developed an efficient process for capturing positioning data using GPS RTK to support ongoing testing and iteration.
Royal Navy Internship
Royal Navy
Feb 2019 - Jul 2019 (5 months)
Interned in the hardware and software development department, contributing to a hit detection sensor system for onboard ships. Worked on electrical circuits and PCB design to support the transition from design concepts to industrial product development.
