At Alaska Department of Fish and Game, I lead groundfish and shellfish research and stock assessment projects in the Central Region, including Cook Inlet and Prince William Sound. I design and conduct marine surveys and provide abundance estimates to inform commercial fishery management.
In the Haines management area, I managed commercial, subsistence, and personal use salmon and shrimp fisheries. Earlier, as an Assistant Area Management Biologist, I served as project leader for the Chilkat River fish wheel stock assessment project and supervised other salmon monitoring projects.
At NOAA’s Auke Bay Laboratories, I was chief scientist for the Gulf of Alaska Integrated Ecosystem Research Project, designing and implementing a large-scale marine ecosystem study. I planned a 72-day research charter, coordinated sample collection, and analyzed trawl catch and net mensuration data.
My research has also examined Pacific herring and immature Chinook salmon, including salmon diet, energetic condition, and growth in the Bering Sea. I hold an M.S. from the University of Washington and use R, ArcGIS, and other analysis tools in my work.
