Winter Is Cool
@winteriscool
Software engineering intern building AI-powered, full-stack products.
What I'm looking for
I’m Nina Yang, a Computer Science student at Virginia Tech (Minor in Math and Music) and a software engineering intern focused on turning real problems into shipped software. I like building systems end-to-end—backend APIs, frontends that users actually enjoy, and AI features that feel practical.
At The Boeing Company (AI Maintenance), I built a FastAPI REST layer with Pydantic-validated schemas for an aircraft defect-inspection pipeline. I designed JSONL persistence with filterable, paginated inspection queries, and I implemented a /api/chat endpoint wrapping Gemini 2.0 Flash for natural-language defect diagnostics.
Earlier, I contributed to an LLM-resume-parser project (ConfiParse) where I helped a CHI research study on XAI hiring systems by building a Django backend integrating RChilli + GPT-4. I also built a React frontend that reduced average review time per candidate (using interaction-time logging) and added accessible visualizations with Chart.js aligned with WCAG 2.1.
At NASA’s Planetary Defense Coordination Office, I processed 800+ lines of raw data with Pandas to map partner organizations to NASA points of contact, and I resolved 5+ bugs on the planetary defense website. I bring that same maker mindset to projects like HeroIntel.GG (OCR pipeline with Tesseract and a full-stack app with Firebase auth and an AI chatbot) and tools like Auto-Apply (a Chrome extension), plus iOS prototyping through DormDash and ongoing leadership as Webmaster for the CS Careers Club.
