What I'm looking for

I’m looking to build event-driven, cloud-native backend platforms in Java/Vert.x on AWS—pairing system design, observability, and automation (CI/CD and AI-assisted tooling) to deliver resilient real-time services and measurable performance gains.

I specialize in architecting highly concurrent, cloud-native backend systems that enable real-time decision-making and complex transactional workflows. My career centers on engineering event-driven architectures with Java and Vert.x, using reactive, non-blocking design to remove performance bottlenecks at scale.

Most recently, I architected a high-throughput, event-driven payment reconciliation platform for a major financial services firm, processing millions of transactions with near-real-time latency and strict consistency guarantees. I engineered the core transactional pipeline with Vert.x, integrated AWS ECS and AWS SQS for resilience, built an internal AI-assisted code review and refactoring tool, and improved average API response times by 40% through PostgreSQL profiling, tuning, and query rewrites.

I also lead platform quality and operational excellence—directing CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions and Jenkins, implementing OAuth 2.0 RESTful API gateway security and rate limiting, and delivering monitoring/alerting dashboards with AWS CloudWatch. Earlier, at BMW Group and GE Power, I delivered real-time streaming telemetry and energy management services (Java/Vert.x, Spring Boot, Kinesis, Lambda, Redis), and I continue to mentor engineers in resilient reactive systems while migrating legacy systems toward event-sourced architectures.

Current

Senior Backend Engineer

Square

Apr 2021 - Present (5 years 3 months)

Architected a high-throughput, event-driven payment reconciliation platform using Java and Vert.x, integrating AWS ECS and SQS to improve resilience and scalability. Built an internal AI-assisted code review/refactoring tool and delivered performance, CI/CD, API security, monitoring, and an event-sourced migration that improved auditability.

BG

Backend Software Engineer

BMW Group

May 2018 - Apr 2021 (2 years 11 months)

Designed and developed a real-time vehicle telemetry and diagnostics platform, building a Java/Vert.x non-blocking ingestion service for high-volume sensor streams. Implemented serverless AWS stream processing, Spring Boot REST APIs, transactional state management with JDBC/PostgreSQL, and a Redis caching layer to reduce latency for customer requests.

GP

Java Developer

GE Power

Jun 2015 - Jun 2018 (3 years)

Developed Java-based back-end services for a centralized energy management system, building RESTful API endpoints for industrial control system data and persistence layers for high-frequency sensor readings. Collaborated with data scientists on Python-based ETL scripts and supported Agile development by contributing to Scrum ceremonies and resolving production reliability issues.
