peter Mwendwa
@petermwendwa
Research scientist at Kenyatta University who co-authored two peer-reviewed publications on medicinal-plant endophytes.
What I'm looking for
At Kenyatta University, I investigated medicinal-plant endophytes and their antimicrobial and enzyme-producing potential. I co-authored two peer-reviewed publications and developed laboratory procedures for enzyme quantification and reproducible microbial culture work.
At Kenya Water Institute, I analyzed water samples and assisted with laboratory workflow improvements that reduced turnaround time from five days to three. My research interests include plant–microbe interactions, plant health, and sustainable agriculture, and my current PhD research at KEMRI Graduate School examines the antibiotic potential of endophytic microorganisms and their bioactive metabolites.
Experience
Work history, roles, and key accomplishments
Intern — Environmental & Water Microbiology
Kenya Water Institute (KEWI)
Jan 2024 - Jan 2025 (1 year)
Conducted microbiological and physicochemical analysis of water samples, applied SOPs and GLP principles, and improved laboratory workflow reducing turnaround time by 40%. Supervised student practical sessions and contributed to technical reports.
Graduate Research Scientist
Kenyatta University
Jan 2019 - Dec 2024 (5 years 11 months)
