@neom1
I’m a clinical research coordinator and bioengineering–public health student focused on translating evidence into patient impact.
What I'm looking for
I’m a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) student and MPH student with a strong bioengineering foundation, and I’ve spent the past several years translating lab and data skills into real-world health impact. In research, I investigated molecular mechanisms of vascular calcification in HGPS using iPSC-derived cells, successfully defended a BS honors thesis, and collaborated internationally on Fulbright-related proposal work.
In clinical and public-health settings, I’ve served as a Chief Student Clinical Research Coordinator in Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine, leading teams, designing testing jigs, and performing material testing to inform long-term fixation options for pediatric care. I’m also driven by health equity and patient-centered innovation—working on deep learning and AI for mental-health diagnosis and supporting initiatives that improve access, safety planning, and community outcomes—so I can keep building at the intersection of bioengineering, public health, and medicine.
Experience
Work history, roles, and key accomplishments
Student Clinical Research Coordinator
Aug 2021 - Present (4 years 10 months)
Coordinated pediatric orthopedic and sports medicine research focused on biomechanical analysis of femoral osteotomy varus fixation methods for pediatric cerebral palsy patients. Led a team of bioengineering undergraduate/high-school students, designed testing jigs, and supported material testing comparing locking proximal femur (LPF) and locking cannulated blade (LCB) plates.
Automotive Technician (Shell)
Shell Automotive Repair Center
Jul 2020 - Present (5 years 11 months)
Served as an automotive engineering technician on weekends performing customer-facing repairs and service work including oil changes, brake pad/rotor replacements, brake fluid changes, tire repair, and transmission/oil services. Maintained service quality while interacting with customers in the local community.
Bioengineering Intern at BTT
Brain Tunnel Technologies
May 2023 - Sep 2023 (4 months)
Supported clinical research and repairs of the hyperthermic chamber at the BTT Clinic, contributing to whole-body hyperthermia treatment workflows for patients with conditions including Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and prostate cancer. Completed literature reviews, analyzed blood lab test results, and wrote case study reports.
Conducted Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome research on vascular calcification using iPSC-derived endothelial and smooth muscle cells and studying molecular drivers including YY1 and PARP1, including plans to validate pathway effects. Successfully defended an honors thesis and presented posters at UMD events and the UMD/JHU mid-Atlantic research competition.
Immigration Legal Services Intern
CASA & Esperanza Health Services
Jan 2023 - Jun 2023 (5 months)
Assisted the Esperanza Center immigration legal services office by reorganizing files with paralegals, attorneys, and staff and supporting refugee/immigrant clients in humanitarian and family-based immigration matters. Worked in a trauma-informed environment and supported documentation and client support needs including for non-English-speaking clients and families.
COVID-19 Sample Testing
CIAN Diagnostics (Patriot Labs)
Jul 2020 - Aug 2021 (1 year 1 month)
Prepared and analyzed thousands of COVID-19 samples during peak testing periods across multiple states and embassy locations. Performed QC/QA using Ovation software, implemented sample rejection workflows, and organized transport of test kits to senior centers and healthcare providers.
NIH NIAID SIP Intern
National Institutes of Health (NIAID)
Jun 2019 - Aug 2019 (2 months)
Supported work in the NIAID SIP apicomplexan molecular physiology section using malaria parasite cultures and a nanoluciferase reporter targeting the PSAC nutrient uptake channel to high-throughput screen for potential inhibitors. Trained in patch clamp, optimized anti-foam protocol steps, and analyzed hydroxychloroquine as an antimalarial inhibitor.
Sensor & Protein Lab Research
Jun 2013 - Jun 2019 (6 years)
Performed protein and biochemistry workflows including gel electrophoresis, Western blot, SDS-PAGE, and silver staining, along with Bradford assays for protein characterization. Designed microfluidic mixers and supported cell-free IVT work by developing/manufacturing components (RiboLock RNAse inhibitor), saving the lab approximately $30,000 in grant funding, and contributed to a low-cost noninvas
Team MIND BioTeam Liaison
