Nazmul Haque
@nazmulhaque
Post-doctoral Research Fellow in pharmacology and neuroscience, advancing sex-dimorphic metabolic discovery through data-driven research.
What I'm looking for
I’m a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at Tulane University in the Hormones & Metabolism Discovery Research Laboratory (Dr. Franck Mauvais-Jarvis). My work centers on pharmacology and neuroscience questions in metabolic health—especially sexually dimorphic mechanisms—using rigorous experimental research and scholarly output (7 total publications; 90+ citations; h-index: 4).
Before my postdoc, I served as a Graduate Research Assistant in the Lab of Dr. Shelley Tischkau, earning my PhD in Pharmacology and Neuroscience and building a strong foundation in energy homeostasis, aryl hydrocarbon receptor biology, and diabetes-related mechanisms. I also enjoy communicating science: I’ve delivered science outreach (Brain Awareness Week), led virtual webinars for U.S. graduate school applications, and taught as a Teaching Assistant—so I can contribute both research progress and meaningful mentorship.
Experience
Work history, roles, and key accomplishments
Conducted endocrine and metabolic research in Tulane University’s Hormones & Metabolism Discovery lab, investigating sexually dimorphic mechanisms underlying diet-induced metabolic dysfunction and adipose aryl hydrocarbon receptor signaling.
Graduate Research Assistant
Southern Illinois University School of Medicine
Jan 2017 - Jan 2023 (6 years)
Performed graduate research in the Tischkau lab at Southern Illinois University, studying how aryl hydrocarbon receptor pathways regulate circadian glucose metabolism and sex-dependent energy homeostasis in preclinical models.
Education
Degrees, certifications, and relevant coursework
Southern Illinois University
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Pharmacology and Neuroscience
2017 - 2023
PhD in Pharmacology and Neuroscience from Southern Illinois University. Dissertation focused on how deficiency of adipose aryl hydrocarbon receptor protects against diet-induced metabolic dysfunction through sexually dimorphic mechanisms.
North South University
Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Pharmacy, Pharmacy
2012 - 2016
BSc in Pharmacy at North South University. Thesis examined how Nymphaea nouchali demonstrates anti-hyperglycemic activity by increasing insulin secretion and inhibiting intestinal disaccharidase in streptozotocin-induced type 2 diabetic rats.
Johns Hopkins University
Course, Data Science / Programming
