Michael de Araujo Palmieri

Worked as an elementary school English teacher for Fundamental 1 and Fundamental 2, and also taught Portuguese for 7th and 8th grades. Currently teaches 40h/week across 16 classes, including special education and individualized support for students with multiple disabilities, and has led reading-room student project initiatives.

Instructed adult multilevel English classes by managing eight proficiency levels (Basic 1–3, Intermediate 1–3, Advanced 1–2) in shared classroom spaces. Designed differentiated exercises and structured interaction moments to enable cross-level collaboration while maintaining appropriate individual challenges.

Developed and taught discipline-specific academic English courses for university staff, faculty, and students across CEFR levels A1–B2. Conducted TOEFL administration, supported international exam preparation, and critically evaluated pedagogical materials.

Taught immersive English classes of approximately 20 students across beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. Developed and adapted lesson plans for different ages and proficiency needs.

Tutored undergraduate student groups (age 16+) by developing teaching materials and assessments under academic supervision. Supported practical teaching experience within the university extension environment.

Provided 20-hours/week academic support to students who struggled to keep pace with the regular course. Managed and organized teaching resources used by instructors.

Current PhD research deepening prior master’s findings on the Brazilian Portuguese pronoun 'você', focusing on whether it functions as an expletive in more general structures and existential constructions.

Conducted a two-year generative linguistics research project with sociolinguistic principles on subject indetermination strategies in formal Brazilian Portuguese writing. Investigated their relationship with the resetting of the Null Subject Parameter (NSP).

Completed a licensure program focused on Portuguese and English language and literature, with English-taught coursework. Completed a year-long teaching internship at Colégio de Aplicação (CAp-UFRJ) and received evaluation for lessons delivered in both Portuguese and English.
