Maria Silva

At PhotoUP, I co-founded a biotech startup developing microalgae-based technology to purify biogas into biomethane. I lead its innovation and funding strategy, including an FCT Exploratory Research Project application and a successfully secured Portugal 2030 Digital Transition Voucher.

I'm completing a PhD in Food Science and Nutrition at the University of Minho, where I research Chlorella vulgaris proteins across cultivation, extraction and bioaccessibility. I write peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and project proposals, and present findings at international scientific conferences.

I also translate evidence into practical nutrition education for postgraduate students, registered nutritionists and military personnel. As Performance Nutritionist for Sporting Clube de Braga's U23 and B Team, I coordinate individualised programmes, monitor athlete progress and educate players and staff.

My work combines research funding strategy, scientific communication, project management and technology transfer. I bring an applicant and researcher perspective to FCT, IAPMEI, Portugal 2030 and European funding opportunities.
