Maria Concetta Zarcone

I've led human lung cell culture and pulmonary disease research at Imperial College London, generating epithelial and fibroblast cultures from Royal Brompton Biobank tissue and contributing to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis endotype studies. My work spans COPD, childhood asthma, IPF, respiratory viral infection, cigarette smoke, diesel exposure, and rare cardiac cancers.

I design complex cell-culture experiments, develop laboratory protocols, manage Human Tissue Act sample processing and laboratory safety, and supervise master's and doctoral students. I bring hands-on expertise in ALI and 3D culture systems, PCLS, molecular analysis, microscopy, flow cytometry, ELISA, and gene expression analysis.
