In my previous role as a Produce Clerk for a Chicago-area grocery chain, I worked in a department with anywhere from 10 to 20 people at any given time. In a schedule where employees were listed by FT/PT status and then seniority, I pride myself on having gone from the bottom of the schedule (where every new employee starts) to having the fourth highest position in the department by the end of my time there.
How I achieved this:
I was that coworker who frequently caught other people's errors, including those affecting price, before product went out.
I was the one to bring out the manual everytime we received a special order, because with the regular flow of new employees, I was frequently the only one who knew that there was a difference between a 12-inch Vegetable Party Tray, an 18-inch Vegetable Party Tray, and a 12-inch Vegetable Tray with Dip.
I knew how to decipher item PLUs, names, and the produce scale to figure out exactly what was being asked for.
If I encountered customer questions or requests while putting out product on the sales floor, I helped however I could, despite that technically being beyond the scope of my responsibilities.
These are just a few examples that describe who I show up as in the workplace, and what you may expect when working with me.
