Security operations engineer pivoting from QA to automate vulnerability management and defensive analytics.
What I'm looking for
I’m a SecOps-focused security professional with 4 years of QA experience and a strong foundation in Linux system programming using Python and C++. I’m currently pivoting into cybersecurity—completing a 91-hour hands-on analyst course and preparing for the ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity (CC) certification.
In my last role as a QA Engineer, I verified data ingestion and integrity between Tenable.io and Nessus to ensure vulnerability data was accurately consolidated and reported. I interrogated Splunk audit logs to perform root-cause analysis on system failures, keeping critical security assets available, and diagnosed scanning defects to prevent blind spots in the attack surface.
I also bridge security and engineering: I reproduced customer-reported vulnerabilities in software logic to ensure security-tool patches met rigorous production standards. Earlier, I performed deep packet inspection of Android traffic using HttpScoop to identify protocol anomalies and prevent unauthorized data exfiltration, and I documented clear-text data exposure that drove adoption of TLS/SSL transport encryption.
Beyond industry work, I build defensive tooling—like a multithreaded C++ network reconnaissance engine that maps 1,000+ ports and generates real-time HTML dashboards, and a Python/FastAPI secure session model that validates multiple session parameters to mitigate API-token hijacking. I’ve also developed a kernel-level process watchdog for automated fault recovery and a custom EDR telemetry agent that extracts Linux process attributes, tracks lifecycle changes, and feeds analytics into a Python GUI for real-time visualization.
