Carmen Elena Chang Avilés

I'm currently a Specialist Physician in the ICU at Hermanos Ameijeiras Clinical-Surgical Hospital, managing critically ill patients in a tertiary referral setting.

I provide care for solid organ transplant recipients, patients with neurocritical conditions such as Myasthenia Gravis crises and Guillain-Barré syndrome, and patients recovering from skull base tumor surgery. I also manage critically ill obstetric patients, ARDS, and prolonged mechanical ventilation using advanced ventilator strategies, invasive hemodynamic monitoring, and neuromonitoring.

During my residency at Lucia Iñiguez Landin Clinical-Surgical Hospital, I rotated through emergency, intensive, and intermediate care units. I developed experience assessing polytrauma patients under ATLS principles and managing septic shock, acute myocardial infarction, and other time-sensitive emergencies.

I'm trained in airway management, central venous access, thoracostomy, point-of-care ultrasound, and life-saving critical care procedures, supported by ACLS, ATLS, BLS, and mechanical ventilation training.
