Beth Torrance
@bethtorrance
Bilingual machine learning scientist with mechanical engineering roots and hands-on AI, data, and LLM experience.
What I'm looking for
I am a bilingual (EN/FR) aspiring Machine Learning Scientist with a foundation in mechanical and chemical engineering and a growing specialization in data science and AI. I am completing the Data Science & AI Engineering program at Turing College, where I gained practical experience with GPT-4, Claude, LangChain, and LangSmith.
My technical toolkit centers on Python (Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, scikit-learn), SQL, GitHub, Docker, Streamlit, Next.js, and Google Cloud Console, complemented by strong data wrangling, EDA, model evaluation, and deployment skills. I have applied these skills in hands-on machine learning projects showcased on my GitHub.
On the research side, I contributed to an applied materials engineering project evaluating ductility of cold-sprayed and laser heat-treated copper in collaboration with academic and national research partners, producing actionable recommendations for process parameter adjustments.
I bring proven teaching and mentoring experience from university TA roles and international education work, seasonal fieldwork demonstrating resilience and teamwork, and an emphasis on clear bilingual communication, critical thinking, and meticulous technical writing.
