Benjamin Chacon
@benjaminchacon
I develop MXene nanomaterials for biomedical, aerospace, sensing, and radiation-shielding applications.
What I'm looking for
I've advanced MXene research at Drexel University's A.J. Drexel Nanomaterials Institute, synthesizing high-yield two-dimensional nanomaterials and developing platforms for immune modulation, cancer therapy, biosensing, tissue regeneration, and lightweight radiation shielding.
Through research with the Air Force Research Laboratory and the European Space Agency's parabolic flight campaign, I've investigated MXene composites, microgravity immune response, thermal management, and aerospace shielding. I also bring product-development experience from Terumo Medical Corporation, where I developed test methods for catheter-based devices and supported reliability investigations.
Experience
Work history, roles, and key accomplishments
Synthesized MAX phase precursors and developed MXenes for biomedical and radiation shielding applications. Led international collaborations and investigated MXene behavior in microgravity.
NSF Research Intern
Air Force Research Laboratory
Sep 2024 - Feb 2025 (5 months)
Reviewed literature on 2D nanomaterials for aerospace thermal and radiation management. Investigated synthesis conditions of Ta4AlC3 MAX phase precursors and conducted TEM analysis on MXene samples.
Nanomaterials Research Co-op
Drexel-NNFC FIRST Nano Co-op Center
Apr 2019 - Sep 2019 (5 months)
Performed chemical synthesis of MXenes for gas sensing devices and films. Tested sensing abilities for VOCs and initiated international collaborations.
Developed test methods for catheter-based devices and assisted in root cause investigations. Operated lab equipment and composed operating procedures.
