Alexis Spell
@alexisspell
Sustainability advocate driving energy benchmarking, adaptive reuse, and community partnerships.
What I'm looking for
I’m a Sustainability Community Advocate focused on translating sustainability goals into real-world outcomes for facilities, communities, and city stakeholders.
At U-Haul International, I manage the Adaptive Reuse program and certification process, including writing each building’s unique history prior to acquisition. I also benchmark energy, water, and gas usage for over 200+ locations to support local city ordinances and Building Performance standards, helping ensure consistent energy reduction results.
I maintain compliance with progressive energy benchmarking requirements across U-Haul’s real estate portfolio, and I turn complex information into clear communication. I create and customize sustainability communication packages and presentations for field team members, and I write letters to city councils highlighting measurable environmental impact while meeting local requirements and certifications.
I build external partnerships with organizations including The Conservation Fund, Tree Canada, and The National League of Cities, and I coordinate conference materials, displays, activities, and creative giveaways to educate both internal teams and city officials. Earlier, as a Summer Intern, I collaborated on Sustainable Food Systems work, developed K-12 lesson plans using “Sow It Forward,” edited instructional videos for tower gardens, and supported grant and survey development—skills I bring into every sustainability initiative I lead.
