Role Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Smoke Jumper Supervisor to lead our elite wildland firefighting team, responsible for rapid response and strategic firefighting operations in challenging environments. In this role, you will oversee the training, safety, and operational effectiveness of our smoke jumpers, ensuring they are well-prepared to combat wildfires and protect both life and property.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate smoke jumper operations, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and operational guidelines during all missions.
- Develop and implement comprehensive training programs to enhance the skills and readiness of smoke jumpers in fire suppression techniques and safety practices.
- Evaluate and assess readiness of team members, leading drills and simulations to maintain high operational standards.
- Collaborate with incident commanders and other firefighting agencies to develop and execute strategic firefighting plans in diverse terrains.
- Conduct post-mission reviews to assess performance, identify lessons learned, and implement improvements for future operations.
- Act as a mentor and resource for smoke jumpers, providing guidance and support in high-stress situations.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 5+ years of experience in wildland firefighting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Certification in smoke jumping and completion of a recognized wildland firefighter training program.
- Strong understanding of fire behavior, meteorology, and safety practices in wildland firefighting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead diverse teams in high-pressure environments.
Preferred:
- Experience with incident command systems and multi-agency firefighting coordination.
- Background in risk management and emergency response planning.
- Advanced first aid and wilderness medical training certifications.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficient in the use of firefighting equipment and aerial delivery systems.
- Familiarity with GPS and mapping technologies for operational planning and navigation.
- Understanding of fire suppression tactics, including direct and indirect attack methods.
