Role Overview
We are looking for a highly skilled and dedicated Smoke Jumper to join our elite firefighting team. In this role, you will be responsible for rapid response to wildfires, utilizing advanced techniques and equipment to suppress fires in remote and difficult-to-access areas. Your expertise will be critical in protecting both natural resources and human life while ensuring the safety of your team.
Responsibilities
- Deploy via air to remote fire locations, utilizing parachuting techniques to land directly in wildfire zones.
- Conduct initial fire assessments and develop strategic suppression plans based on environmental conditions and fire behavior.
- Utilize hand tools, chainsaws, and other firefighting equipment to create fire breaks and control lines.
- Implement safety protocols and conduct risk assessments to ensure team safety during operations.
- Collaborate with other firefighting teams and agencies to coordinate response efforts and resource allocation.
- Participate in ongoing training and drills to maintain and enhance firefighting expertise and physical fitness.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Certification as a Smoke Jumper or equivalent experience in wildland firefighting.
- Strong physical fitness and ability to perform strenuous tasks in challenging environments.
- Proven experience in fire suppression tactics, including use of hand tools and aerial firefighting methods.
- Experience in conducting risk assessments and implementing safety protocols.
Preferred:
- Wildland Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1) certification or higher.
- Experience with helicopter operations and aerial firefighting techniques.
- Knowledge of local ecology and fire behavior patterns.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in operating firefighting equipment, including pumps, hoses, and chainsaws.
- Familiarity with GPS and mapping technologies for navigation in remote areas.
- Understanding of fire behavior modeling and weather impact on fire spread.
Soft Skills and Cultural Fit
