Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Head of Textile Conservation to lead our conservation team, ensuring the preservation and restoration of valuable textile artifacts. This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of textile conservation techniques and a passion for cultural heritage. You will be responsible for overseeing all conservation projects, developing best practices, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to promote conservation initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the textile conservation team, providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
- Develop and implement conservation strategies for a diverse range of textile artifacts, ensuring their preservation and longevity.
- Conduct condition assessments and recommend appropriate conservation treatments for various textiles.

Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in textile conservation, museum studies, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in textile conservation, with a focus on historic and contemporary textiles.
- Demonstrated expertise in conservation methods, materials, and technologies.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects effectively.
Preferred:
- Experience in a leadership role within a conservation team or department.
- Familiarity with digital documentation and conservation management software.
- Publications or presentations in the field of textile conservation.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in textile conservation techniques, including cleaning, stabilization, and repair.
- Knowledge of materials science as it pertains to textiles.
- Experience with digital imaging and documentation practices in conservation.
